So what are you reading now? Part 2

I just finished Peter David's The Captain's Daughter a few minutes ago, and I loved it. Anybody who thinks PAD shouldn't be writing Treklit anymore is nuts, even though this book was written 14 years ago ;). Insight into the Enterprise-B, Demora Sulu, John Harriman, and Hikaru Sulu was most welcome. After reading the scenes between Sulu and Chekov, it made me want to read more stories about the two of them. I know that Chekov is Sulu's XO by 2298 (The Sundered), but I want more. Was there any other books dealing with them together post-Kirk? Nothing came up in Memory Beta or my memory...

I'm now moving onto DRG3's Lost Era novel, Serpent Among the Ruins. I plan on being a E-B, John Harriman, and Demora Sulu expert by the time i'm done :D.

I'm reading The Covenant of Genesis, great book btw; The Murdered Sun and just picked up The Never Ending Sacrifice, so the other two will take a back seat for the next couple of days while I zip through it.

Read Nick Meyer's memoir yesterday. It was a pleasant afternoon's read.

Casting about for something different, I started Cormac McCarthy's The Road this afternoon. Read about 175 pages with barely a pause. Amazing. Simply amazing. I'll probably finish tonight before I go to sleep.

Do you have Tales from the Captain's Table, because that's got a really good Demora story in it that gives some more background for her.

^I do have that anthology but have only read a few of the stories. My wife read it in a weekend and said the DRG3 Demora story was the best one. That two recommendations now...I better get on it ;)

I finished Absolute Power by David Baldacci. I'm now reading Stargate Atlantis: Mirror, Mirror. It's a bit confusing and the time travel stuff doesn't really make sense but it's still pretty good. Next up is Torchwood: Another Life.

I finished the DS9 novel The Big Game.

Now reading Tales of the Dominion War. I can't start another novel because I'll be moving into my dorm room on Thursday so I probably won't have much time to reading Star Trek novels. Besides (I know I will get flammed for this but here I go anyways...)I don't want anyone to actual know I read Star Trek novels.

*Prepares to be bashed*

I'm reading Marlfox in the Redwall series. However, I just might take a 'Star Trek' break soon as I got notice two DS9 books were shipped today. :D

On the advice of TrekBBSers, I've taken a chance on Voyager books again with Full Circle. I'm more than halfway through, and I can definitely see myself reading the following books!

Just picked up 1996's Star Trek: The Next Generation- #39 Rogue Saucer by John Vornholt from my box of old books for some reason this morning tore thru half of it quickly. I forgot how much fun this one is. Takes place 7th season of TNG my favorite time for this crew..easy read. The only thing that puzzles me is when Riker and LaForge are hiding on the ship from the Maquis why can't internal sensors track them? They take off thier communicator pins. This always confused me how they can pinpoint lifesigns miles away from a planet, but if they take off thier little pin...poof! Where'd they go? But its a super gnarley fun read.

Plus I have the new one Star Trek-Troblesome Minds by Dave Galanter I am eager to read before I go back to college next week. (after a 7 yr abscence!):bolian:

And if I get to it ..Star Trek by Alan Dean Foster. Maybe the movie will make more sense to me in book form. :guffaw:

That's great; I'm so glad to hear lots of people saying that. I think Kirsten deserves tons of sales. Like you, I loved that book, despite never being much fond of Voyager in the first place.

Don't count on it :) I mean, I loved the movie, but a novel should have filled in more of those gaps and this one didn't even try.

Just finished Ishmael. Man, I loved this weird little book. Crossing over Star Trek with a now-obscure two-season western from the 60s, and even including some references to other old shows, as well as a Doctor Who reference! And still many great Spock moments.

Now I'm reading, continuing to kick it old school, Killing Time. I'm reading the first printing, the version with the slashy stuff included.

In the past 48hrs, I have finished both No Surrender, and Treason. I really liked both stories, although I did have a little issue with No Surrender. I just felt that the end of it came way to suddenly.
I would have rather seen more interaction between Gold and Bradford, and more of a build up both to his decision to return his hostages and his death. On the other hand, I do really like the background and development the story gave Gold
. Final Rating: 8.5/10
As for Treason, I really don't have any many issue with it. For a while I was starting to not like the series as much, but the last three book have done a lot to make me like the series again.
I really liked the Brethren and the D'myurj, and I'm glad that they appear to possibly be sticking around. I'm also very curious where PAD is going with that last bit with Nechayev
. Final Rating 9/10

I also dropped by Borders today, and picked up a copy of Mere Anarchy, and A Game of Thrones (The first book in the fantasy series A Song of Fire & Ice). I've gotten a ton of books lately, so think this will probably be it for a while (other than the new Trek books).

Just read Mark Gatiss' The Vesuvius Club, which was good fun. Not sure what to read next, but I have picked up a bunch of Trek stuff lately, so *might* get round to some of them

Picked up an English translation of Cien años de soledad yeasterday.

Found a book of prose and photos by Leonard Nimoy at local goodwill - its looks interesting enough but I mostly got it for the author. It's called You & I.

I picked up a couple of Nimoy's poetry collections in my wife's hometown a few years back. While she was driving us back I read some of it to her. She came close to throwing me out of the car.

I've never read any. Are they that bad, or simply not her thing?
