By not caring.

The DS9 books lost whatever plot momentum they once had. The long wait would be acceptable if there was actually some wrapup at the end of each book; but because of how heavily serialized the books are, it's rather difficult for someone to come back to the story after a break.

(And before Christopher brings up "but other series don't have their books so close together": they also actually tell complete stories in one volume.)

I must be reading the wrong series, as most of the series I read, the individual books *don't* tell a complete story.

As for the inclusion of the Mirror Universe...I personally am surprised at the hostility and apprehension regarding having the MU as part of the DS9 post finale literature. I was kind of thinking it took some time before it got included, and it only made sense in the grand scheme of things. I liked it because now we also get to see characters from Deep Space Nine that we only saw in limited capacity, and with the depth and scope of Deep Space Nine as a whole, the stories of the Mirror Universe only added to the reading pleasure, but then again, that's just me.

I probably would have liked a MU element in DS9 Relaunch more if it would have been handled better. First of all, it pointed out the annoying clichés in the MU too much and on top of that I don`t like it when me, as a reader, is being played with. We had several Kiras and Kira look alikes and I was kept guessing who this “Cardassian Woman” is and who is now who at the end. I felt increasingly irritated when reading “Warpath” and kept wondering, why should I care anyway and why did they have to make is as complicated as possible? I was left in the dark and came to the wrong conclusions about who is what Illiana and the prospect of reading more of that confusing stuff involving characters I don`t care about is not something I am looking forward to at all. I want to read DS9 Relaunch, not another MU novel.

Only 12 books in your to read pile? I can't even imagine that. In fact I just ordered several more books (found out that most of the Marvel books are written by my favorite Trek authors so I bought them) so I probably have around 100 or more books calling my name to be read.

You're right...I got the words mixed up...my bad!

As for one of the posters talking about mysteries and whatnot....what the DS9 post-finale novels have done wonderfully for me anyways is create new mysteries and attempt to resolve unresolved mysteries from the television program that still haven't been answered...and even those answers aren't really answers....I think that when it comes to DS9, expect the unexpected and don't expect stories to go from A to B to C and back to A....they evolve as the mythos of Deep Space Nine evolves, and the story potential is still growing.

I haven't read the forum in awhile, so I'm surprised as well. It seems logical since the Mirror Universe was more prominent in DS9 than any of the other Trek series and it's a logical place to look for more story.

The gap between the novels does make it challenging to keep up, however, so I can understand people having issues with that, but as well-written as I find these, they're not as dense as Arthropod Phylogeny and Evolution, so re-reading to get back in the flow shouldn't be regarded as a big chore. Besides, you'd really only need to re-read Warpath and maybe the Worlds of Deep Space Nine series to get back in the swing of things.

Oh, don`t get me wrong - I love a mystery but it depends on the mystery.

This kind of mystery that feels to me like a mystery for mystery`s sake, not because it really adds any substance, is not my cup of tea.

While I agree with Ro_Laren in principal- I never cared for the eps in the MU during the series- now I feel that Warpath and FS gave a new twist and added a lot of tension to the DS9 relaunch that it needed. I liked the MG novesl better than the Worlds one, but they've set the tone and organization for how things will be for the foreseeable future which we needed. We can't go around wondering why we can't ask this one for help, or what happened to that guy- so we needed that out of the way. And where would we be without the end of the World's Dominin story??

That being said- there is a lot of tension now, seemingly devestating and insurmountable problems... now that FS is out- are people waiting for Soul Key? I am!! Tho I admit to- being able to focus more on schoolwork for a while, and doing other readings etc... having a life... But now I've been reading the Destiny series instead... LOL!!! I guess I'll have to content myself to just talking about it til SK comes out... it seems like a million years away. =(

On the show, the MU started off dark and dangerous, but degenerated into farce over the years. The DS9-R has brought the menace back to the MU (although, ironically, with the help of an RU character).

I'm definitely waiting for The Soul Key. I'm also a huge DS9R fan, so any time there is a new book on the horizion I'm gonna be anxious for it. Luckily I read most of the other book series, so I've got plenty of other stuff to be anxious for like Titan, New Frontier, TNGR, MyrU, MU, ect.

They vary between light(almost) and very dark. I highly rec KRAD's take on "How To Kill A Canon Character" (or something like that, I forget the exact title.)

As for the Mirror Universe books, they are kinda dark, but most of them are good, especially The Sorrows of Empire by David Mack (the same guy who wrote the Destiny trilogy, and one of my favorite authors) which is all about the fall of the Terran Empire. IMO most of the stories are actually better than the last couple MU DS9 eps. Oh, and there is also Saturn Children, which is a DS9R side story that fills in the gaps between "The Emperor's New Cloak" and Warpath.

Keith did The Mirror-Scaled Serpent in the Mirror Universe books, and a number of canon characters were killed there. I would imagine that was what Mistral was thinking of.

But I have a question- from Olympus Descending- which since this is a post-warpath thread, I'm assuming everyone has read...

Whatever beliefs the Founders have- their status as 'gods' was implanted in the Vorta and the Jem'Hadar. So, external elements aside, does it matter whether the Founders have beliefs to that effect of their own? Does that *really* affect how the Vorta and Jem'Hadar should view their gods?
