Now that's just silly... just because Rom identifies the man as Vic doesn't mean he -is- Vic. For all we know he's Felix and Felix modeled Vic after himself. Or he's simply a man that Felix used as a model for Vic in general. It's not like he ever identifies himself as Vic.

He doesn't, no, but Bashir does. He clearly yells "It's all over for you Fountaine!"

So, whatever the explanation, the guy is clearly Vic.

There would have been so many fundamental changes in the timeline from that point that the universe should have been completely unrecognizable.

Unless the two universes are tied together somehow, have a interactive connection between each other. And it isn't a case of a single original universe with a branch event at some point in history.

The prime universe, and the mirror universe are really one.

That's clearly a stretch of all plausibility. The credits even identify him as "Vic Fontaine" as if there were any question who it was. As for mirror Bashir, that's a good point that really wasn't addressed. Then again mirror Bashir really didn't seem too smart anyways. Just a hyperaggressive bully.

The best thing to do with the mirror universe is just enjoy the eye candy and don't think too much about it. In the Enterprise mirror universe they're all just dumb. It's no wonder the rebels were on the verge of overthrowing the Terran Empire.

The TOS mirror universe doesn't make much more sense... Spock disarms their military completely? Yeah... good call.

The DS9 Mirror universe just contradicts itself in so many places. The Terran rebel storyline was kinda interesting and Nana Visitor REALLY threw herself into that role whatever else you want to say. Turning Worf into the sterotyle evil villain was cool too. And Sisko sleeping with Kira and Dax in one 45 minute episode... beat that Kirk!

True, but Trek has proven many times that plausible and canon are two different things. As I said in my previous post, best to just not take the mirror episodes seriously.

If that's one of DS9's bigger problems they did alright compared to the continuity mindscrews in Voyager and Enterprise.
