So the twist to the story arc this series is...

JoeZhang

Vice Admiral
Admiral
there is no arc.

The big line with this series is "movie poster". They've realised that quite wonderfully with the pre-publicity, a poster which indulges the sci-fi show's finest B-movie traditions: the Doctor, Amy and Rory reflected in the eye-stalk of one of Skaro's worst. And while the movie poster line is meant to mean "blockbuster of the week", what it also means is "no two-parters" and "no series long story arc".

That will delight those who found last year's River Song saga too overwrought, but its actual thrill lies somewhere else. It's usually a back-handed compliment to say something was short yet felt long. But that wasn't what was going on here either.

Introducing the Asylum, BBC drama boss Ben Stephenson said that this series was a Hollywood movie each week. Afterwards, Moffat told me that the intention here is compressed storytelling – 90 minutes squeezed into 45. Actually, Asylum Of The Daleks manages to do a lot more than most of the classic series four-parters. It certainly manages to do more than, say, last year's The Rebel Flesh two-parter.

there is no arc.

We were told long ago that there'd be no two-parters or heavy arc for this series.

However... as usual Moffat's not entirely telling the truth, as going from comments in some of the reviews from last night's screening, we get introduced to yet another Mysterious Woman Who Will Pop Up For A Bit In Various Episodes at the end of AOTD.

'cos you can never have too many of those.

And it will be River's sister...Lake.

That would be her big sister. I'm banking on one of her little sisters Brook or Stream

And her intrepid terrier, Puddles. :)

To those of you who guessed that the Mystery Woman is actually
Jenna Louise Coleman
, congratulations, you win a cigar.

To those of you who guessed that said Mystery Woman
pulls a River Song and dies in her first appearance
, you're either a big fat liar and if not can I please have next week's winning Lottery numbers.

So... did we ever find out who the big scary voice was at the end of The Big Bang...?

The long awaited return of Graham Norton to the series
I still remember and chuckle about his Talk Show Commercials some time back that talked about Lady Camilla (Is "Lady" appropriate to use for the Prince's second wife, I understand Princess [Or Queen, if Charles is crowned?] is definitely out of the question?) in her long Blue Evening Gown, and then the flashed up a pic of a horse with a blue Saddle pad :guffaw:

LOL.

Said "mysterious" woman is in fact...

Amy.

Well, a *second* Amy. You can see her in the set of promo pics released last night, albeit only from the back and in long-shot, so a lot of people didn't realise who it was... I posted the pic in the "season 7 finally starts shooting" thread.

Princess is theoretically correct, as the heir apparent's wife she *is* entitled to call herself "Princess of Wales," but she's more generally "Duchess of Cornwall," because of the whole Princess Di thing.

Diana was "lady Di" because of being the "Lady Diana Spencer," daughter of Earl Spencer, rather than through any royal entitlement. Camilla has no such family history.

Ah, thank You. I knew about Diana's Earl Father, but, thought "Lady" was an all encompassing title for any female Royalty, who wasn't otherwise ineligible. I recall hearing on TV one day, something to the effect of her Title being "Royal Consort" and being ineligible for some specific title due to being a Second Wife (same was said to be true of a second Male spouse, I believe)

So they're shelving the whole subplot about the Doctors name, and "The Fall of Eleven" from the end of last season?

I guess that'll be Matt's last episode then.

It doesn't necessarily need to be shelved. For all we know, it'll be the season finale or something. Nothing says it has to require a full season arc.

Ala the Doctor's hand from The Christmas Invasion...

Technically she did die- turned into a Dalek and then blown up with the rest of the planet...
