So Tell Me about Maine

What suburb are you in? For some reason, I thought you were a Vermonter ....

I lived in Vermont for several years, it was awesome. We moved here about a year ago after my wife finished grad school and took a post doc here. I'm in Framingham.

How about you?

Ahhhhh ..., that explains it. I live in Jamaica Plain (a "village" of Boston.) Howdy neighbor! *waves* ;)

We now return you to Frontline's regularly scheduled thread.

So, Mr. Wandering Minstrel, whither goest thou today? :)

That means you live near Shopper's World! I love that area!

And Jamaica Plain is pretty, I love Arnold Arboretum.

I live in the western half of the state that the eastern assholes treat like shit. When the asshole governor passes the 19 cent increase on gas tax because your side of the state is fucked up Western Mass will become part of VT. :)

^when I was growing up in the Springfield area, I heard New Hampshire....

LOL! Yeah, Smoothie probably doesn't even know what the old Shopper's World was like. Remember the Macy's that looked like an egg? Gotta love that "mid-century" architecture.

Yeah, we lived right in Boston for 9 years, and when it was time to buy we wanted to be close but have some space. We take our dogs to the Arb every chance we get; every weekend morning at a minimum. We're also close to Franklin Park, which is nice, too. Lots of green space out our way (and it's the unofficial dog haven of Boston.) ;)

I'm actually working on a couple of projects at the VA hospital there.

You can find 3 of everything on Route 9, but it's a pain getting around. There's also nothing else do here besides shop. A movie theatre, bowling alley, arcade, etc. would be nice!

I spend most of my free time at Callahan or Ashland State Park, but I'd like something to do on a rainy day.

Yeah I'm only familiar with the current incarnation. We've got that swanky Natick Collection too, which oozes snootiness.

I'm not sure FrontLine is ready for a real lobster yet. He's used to those crayfish they call lobsters in Florida.
We prefer the term "Crawdads" you heathen. Though our crustaceans may be smaller, at lest you can free dive for them in the keys and not worry about freezing your ass to death. Actually Im going to save the lobster till I get to a town that doesnt look and feel like its right out of a Stephen Kiing novel. Folks also seem amazed that I catch my own scallops.

So, Mr. Wandering Minstrel, whither goest thou today? :)
glad you asked. Well this project is falling apart all ready and Im laughing my ass off. Not like I didnt warn them. The client has loaded the scope of work with so much crap its not even funny. Short of the long is that it took me 17 hours of work to knock out what should normally have taken me 6 hours to do. The client is crapping their pants because we have to be done by 1 June. So they are now seriously considering reigning in the scope of work to something more sane in order to make the schedule. Im awaiting the word. Oh well. Im done in York. I check out of here tomorrow and then head of to Saco. I'll be there for a few days and then its off to Portland. Oh and I just picke dup Massachuttes and possibly New York. Its a long time to be away from the family, but it beats the shit out of being poor.

I used that originally and then realized that no one north of the Mason-Dixon line or outside the US would understand. So I changed it to something a little more understandable.

So am I, considering what wily and elusive creatures they are. :D

WOW, so much to respond to.

LOL! Yeah, I remember when it was just "The Natick Mall."

I thought the Oregonians could turn into shining spheres of light and teleport wherever they want.

Well shit, then I'm doing it wrong.

LOL! Somehow I missed this the first time. Very funny!!! Let me try for a minute here ....

:shifty:

Nope. Nuttin'. Must've been away too long. :(

I thought the Oregonians could turn into shining spheres of light...
Too much from the Taco Bell value menu and a match work wonders.

:guffaw:

We don't have Taco Bell in MA. :shifty:

Well, I genuinely hope it turns out for the best.

But, it also occurred to me reading this, that there seem to be quite a few eastern MA TBBS-ers here. I'm putting it out there that, if you end up landing in the Boston metro area at all, we should have a meet-up.

Seriously!

Just say the word!!!

And in the meantime, enjoy Saco and Portland!!! Seriously, try Front Street. You'll be glad you did! ;)

I am projected to be down there during May.

But they are a blast and all you need is a mask, some fins and a snorkle.

So I just found out that Im spending the next month in Maine, primarily along the cost but going so far north as Houlton . Never been there before. I'm going to be busy as hell during the week, but will have my weekends free. What can you all tell me about Maine. Anything to do other than look at quint fishing villiages and eat lobster?

Get a beer with Tamar!

Cool! I really think we should make this happen!

btw, I thought I should mention, you and I (and many of the old regulars) used to converse in posts somewhat regularly. But, it may have been under my old ID (NCC-42768) and, unfortunately, shortly after the name change real life kicked in and I haven't been as active as I used to be for a couple years now. I hate it when that happens. Who needs real life, anyway? :p Just thought I'd mention that, cuz I've started conversations with people recently, being all palsy, and I can see them going ... who the hell are you? ;)

That's not my puppy just an av I found. I don't have a good av photo of my dog. I've got a chocolate Lab, male, just turned a year old. He's a 90 lb beast but a big smush. We've taken several obedience classes with him and he's mostly under control. I'd love to have a multispecies meet up sometime!

Wow, he is a big boy! Ours are male, as well. At 9 months they weighed in at 60 and 55 lbs, respectively, though. We think they have quite a bit of growing to do yet. The chocolate's paws are HUGE!

A multispecies meet up would be a blast! My two favorite things all at once: Trek and Labs. ;)

The scary thing is that he is still growing like a weed and 90 lbs was a couple weeks ago. He's too big to pick up and get on the scale at home anymore!

Every time I dial down how much food I give him, he gets taller and longer and start to look thin so I have to feed him more to keep him in the right shape. I hear they don't really finish filling out until about 18 months so even if its just 1-2 lbs a month he'll end up 100 lbs.

I know exactly what you mean, about the food rationing and its effects, and about the growth.

Our last lab was a little guy, but he definitely didn't quit growing completely until around 15-18 months. However, he had probably maxed out his height and length by about 12 - 14 months. The rest seemed to be "filling out" and final development of muscle mass. After he stabilized, there were far less dramatic changes in his physiology with changes in food.

Nevertheless ..., yours is going to be a big boy. ;) What's his name?

Our chocolate is Kodi (short for Kodiak, because he looked like a little bear cub when we brought him home) and the yellow his Ledger ... for various and sundry reasons (he sort of picked it for himself.) ;)

My dog is named Rupert. My wife always wanted a chocolate Lab named Rupert for some reason. No clue why. So last year when money and living space permitted, I got him for her. She has her mind set on buying me a yellow one for my next birthday (the big 30).

Rupert was the biggest and most exuberant one in the litter, according to the breeder. I have no doubt she was telling us the truth at this point.

Out in my neck of the woods, we take him to Callahan state park a lot, its close and is an off leash park. Ashland State Park is quite nice as well. Ever been to either of those?

I was in your beck of the woods today. Had to do some field work at the VA. As I was driving in, I kept looking for the guy dressed up like a Klingon with two cute dogs.

I've heard "crawdad" up in New England, Rebel.

A 1 year old lab that is mostly under control? :wtf: :guffaw: :guffaw: Sorry but having raised labs, and I currently have a lab / great dane mix, I have never known a lab that was controllable until after the brain fair visits them around 2 years of age and gives them their brains.

In other news the client location I was working at was robbed while I was there today :shifty:. No one was hurt. Im just pissed. I was in another room while this was going down and wasnt aware. Cops nailed (literally) him about 100 yards away and he needed EMS attention. I always love a happy ending. Oh and Saco...well it aint no York. On to Portland tomorrow night and then through the weekend.
