So now are we just going to get.....

Dar70

Vice Admiral
Admiral
..rehased/alternate stories for future Trek films ala NuBSG?? A new Khan Story or Corbomite Manuver etc. etc.

If I had to guess, I'd say no. I think part of the reason for the altered timeline/quasi-reboot/prequel is so that future films can focus on something new and unexpected, something we haven't seen before. At least, that would be my hope.

If this were a TV series done in the same fashion, then I'd imagine that they'd probably do that every so often though. In that medium, it might be kind of neat to see a NuTrek take on some of the original series episodes. But for these new films (assuming there'll be more), I believe the idea is to break away from the Trek canon of old (which had arguably gotten too cluttered and constricting) and create a new one -- rehashing old concepts and stories is probably not the best way to go about doing that.

It wouldn't make any sense to bring back Khan again, because the timeline changes of this film don't go back far enough to explain away the Eugenics Wars. If they brought back Khan in an Abramsverse movie, they'd have to either give him a new backstory that takes place in our future (which would just become dated again eventually), or find some way to explain to moviegoers how he could have come from an era that is already in our rear-view mirror, but events that never really happened.

They have to do something new.

I'd say Guardian of Forever offers possibilities, and so too does a Mirror Darkly.

But I'm hoping they will fashion something completely new and thrilling.

Oh yeah, yeah, and thought provoking. :)
