So much time!

Since the movie isn't coming out until next may, I hope they take their time doing the edits and FX. Sometimes TREK movies seem rushed to release, and suffer with poor versions. I hope JJ does his best to make sure this movie doesn't feel like another slap-together movie. In fact, JJ, if you are reading this post? I would have no problem being asked to help you edit the movie. Just drop me a line bro!

^It's a good point. I also hope they take their time, especially since the release date has been pushed back. I would really like this movie to be so good that even the complainers say, "Damn that is awesome!"

Well, as you yourself stated, ILM has a full year to work on the film. But bear in mind that just because a film's production is rushed doesn't always automatically mean the movie itself will be bad.

ILM had only 3 months to create 400 VFX shots for War of the Worlds. And those effects turned out great. ILM has 9 months (and probably a few extra weeks) to complete 1000 VFX shots for Star Trek.

Also, knowing J.J.'s demand for realism in effects work, I don't think we'll be disappointed.

$125 million

I don't think that's for all the Actors / Crew / Sound / Location / Ect.

ILM will take a huge chunk of that to do FX.

Computer rendering time ain't cheap yanno.

The way I see it, everything was on schedule to have the film completed (visual f/x and all) in time for its Christmas 2008 release. So now that the film has been pushed back to May 2009, this just gives ILM even more time to fine-tweak their f/x work and for J.J. to edit the final film together. I don't think this film will feel "rushed" at all!

In an ideal world..true. But this is STAR TREK. I just want Paramount to keep their noses out of the final product..let JJ run his ship the way he wants to..

Don't think there'll be too much meddling. Abrams has final cut in his deal with Paramount IIRC.

I just think it's awesome that ILM has decided to work all those extra months for free, forsaking other film projects that may come their way in the meantime.

Go ILM! :techman:

P.S. Please send J.J. ten really cool rock monsters for Christmas, not just one shitty one.

Isn't ILM doing the effects? They're the best in the business.

It doesn't matter who does the effects. Like said, it can't be rushed, otherwise it won't be good.

It's obviously not going to be rushed, but if it was, it could still be good.

We've seen tv shows with impressive FX (Battlestar/Firefly) and their schedules are quite a bit more rushed than a typical movie.
