SO laughable... Toys R Us Trek goof

I was thinking about getting one of the new movie communicators, so checked the Toys R Us website to see if my local store has them in stock.

Then I noticed this part of the item description-

"The cover manually flips open to reveal a lenticular label of Kirk and Spoke."

I'm sorry, but after more than 40 years, who in the world could possibly get those names wrong? :guffaw:

A non-Trek fan.

They're also wrong in that there's no lenticular label of anything. The inside if the lid has the Federation logo printed on it, and under the fisheye lens in the face of the comm is a picture of stars. No Kirk. No "Spoke."

"Kirk and Spock" is so much a part of pop culture, those names are practically in the dictionary. I still don't see how someone could possibly get the spelling wrong. :vulcan:

What would a "lenticular label" be, anyway?

Someone who doesn't keep up with pop culture or who has dyslexia.

I don't think it is appropriate to make fun of people with disabilities.

I agree that even non-fans should know the names. But, then again, very few people can spell anything properly these days. It is rather sad.:vulcan:

To gastrof: There was a prototype picture of the comm that had a little 4:3 TV screen looking image of Chris Pine in the yellow tunic on the inside of the flip-up lid. The little scale versions of the comm that come with the Barbies, interestingly, have a green rectangle there, that's the same shade green as VFX greenscreen material. So there's been some speculation that there was a greenscreen element inside the props that was intended to be replaced with a video image of whoever the person is talking to, and they just never used it in the film.

ETA: Oh, you asked "what", not "where." A lenticular label is one of those images that appears to move or shift between different pictures based on viewing angle. It has that distinctive ribbed clear plastic front; you might have seen some around.

People with dyslexia wouldn't be likely to have a job as a proof-reader or as the "last word" on something going out for public consumption.

Tending to be somewhat lexdisic myself, I'd never trust myself to have such a position.

As for making fun of such people, if you've done that, I'd encourage you to stop.
