So I Was Playing World Of Warcraft...

Nedersong

Captain
And I got some loot. The loot was a piece of aromor. It was a mail chestplate.

It was called...

Khan's Chestpiece.

No joke intended.

WoW has a ton of Star Trek references:
  • There is a quest in the Netherstorm called You're Hired, where you search for Etherlithium Matrix Crystals, a play on the Dilithium Matrix Crystals used to redirect energy generated in warp engines.
  • In Exodar, there is a group of draenei that walk around checking out the holograms, named Audrid, Curzon, Emony, Tobin and Torias. They were all hosts of the Dax symbiont in Deep Space Nine.
  • After completing the Netherstorm quest That Little Extra Kick, the giver and receiver of this quest (B.O.O.M. Master Mixologist Boots) dies. A goblin paramedic rushes in to stimulate his heart. After a couple of shocks, the paramedic screams "Dammit Boots, I'm a doctor, not a priest!" which is a reference to Lenoard 'Bones' McCoy's line "Dammit Jim, I'm a doctor, not a <insert profession>" from the original Star Trek series.
  • In Toshley's Station, there is a gnome standing to the north named Smiles O'Byron. Miles O'Brien is also referred to as Smiley in the alternate universe episodes of 'Deep Space Nine'.
  • In Zangarmarsh, there is a Night Elf NPC who has gone insane, and sometimes says "There are four lights!", which refers to an episode of The Next Generation in which Captain Picard is captured by Cardassians and tortured to break his will and get him to admit he sees five lights where there are only four.
  • In Booty Bay and Tanaris we find two engineers manning the teleporters named Jhordy Lapforge and Scooty, nods to Geordi LaForge for Star Trek: The Next Generation and to Montgomery "Scotty" Scott for the original series.
  • The cave below Manaforge Ara in the Netherstorm is named Trelleum Mine, from the mineral known as trellium in Star Trek: Enterprise. Overseer Azaloth also walks around inside the Manaforge Ara, a possible reference to Azati Prime, a planet located inside the Delphic Expanse, a region where you can find trellium ore. Additionally, the demons placed in the manaforge and otherwise generally seen manipulating Kael's blood elves are reminiscent of the Sphere Builders manipulating the Xindi in the Delphic Expanse.
  • The zone of Netherstorm has similar colors and chaotic theme as the Delphic Expanse. Warlocks cannot summon in the Netherstorm like certain starship functions do not work in the Expanse.

This post is just geekosity distilled! Cool!

I haven't played in months, but it's a little sad to note that I knew every location and every person referenced in the post.

all these things are about Khan... not related to Star Trek..
so u finding that chestpiece in that game is pretty rubbish... hardly worth this thread existing...

Except that Khan's chest has been the source for a misunderstanding for a long time. A lot of people believed it was fake. So I might very well be a nod to Trek.

It has been widely debated that Ricardo Montalban's chest was actually a prosthetic piece that he wore during the film. In the director's commentary in the special edition DVD, Nicholas Meyer is quoted as saying that it was, in fact, Montalban's actual chest and that he was a very muscular man who worked out.

That list leaves off the quest with the goblin engineer Trip (I think that was his name. I know it was a play on Trip Tucker but it has been a couple years since I played.) He is looking for rocket parts so he can blast off into space.
yeah, just glancing through it, I know there's a bunch left out. that's how WoW manages to keep me me interested after a couple years of killing bears looking for 10 bear claws.

Wow, now that's a crummy droprate! ;) Anywho! I was certain Trip was around somewhere too, but was missing off the list so thought I imagined it. It's just a shame half the nitwits who play Warcraft don't appreciate the hilarity of most of the references ingame.

it's probably better that most people don't get every reference.... there are already tons of complaints there there is too much pop culture reference...

of course, you only notice it, if you know about it. the "dax's" for example, are obvious to followers of ds9, but to an average player, they probably don't seem to odd (i hope).
