So I finally got around to reading the manual...

It turns out the F3 button my my MacBook Pro is an "expose" function that will resize all open windows so you can see what you have open. How long has this been going on!?

* hits button some more *

This is fun! Off to finish the manual...

It doesn't permanently adjust anything, Expose (damn---can't figure out how to do the little accent on a Windows keyboard) just "flies" all of the windows into a tiled pattern momentarily as a quick means of letting you switch windows.

I don't use it very often myself, but then I'm not one of those people who has to have 50000 windows open at once.....

Much more useful (in my opinion anyway) - if you have a relatively recent MacBook/MacBookPro, you can activate Expose by swiping four fingers at once down the trackpad, then swipe them back up again to resume normal service (or click to pick a window).

Go to System Preferences > Exposé & Spaces > Exposé and set hot corners for different Exposé functions like Show All Windows, Show Application Windows, Show Desktop and so on.

Also a neat trick is to hold down the Shift key while activating any Exposé function.

Love the 4-finger swipe!

If, however, you swipe up from normal view, all the windows fly away out of sight, exposing the desktop :)
