So, have we ever seen any of Chris Pines "Kirk Fu"?

Plum

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
What I mean is, has he ever done action films? Been in a fight scene? Can he knock an Andorian to the floor with his ass?

Trekkies wanna know... whos 'Kirk Fu' is the best. ;)

The most important moves: the flying kick and the inexplicably deadly karate chop to the back of the neck.

... and the ole Kirk standard... the punch in the face. Which is my fav part of "Dagger of The Mind" (not counting Helen Noel). The power goes then Kirk comes too from his torture and... punches everyone in the face and escapes. Brilliant!

And Khan, remember how Kirk actually defeated Khan in the engine room fight (Space Seed)?

My favorite was when Kirk finished smacking the Vaal worshipper around he tells him, "We won't hurt you". :wtf:

Or when after he beats the crap outta the bicycle guy in "Miri", THEN he begins to worry about his condition.

I hope the movie has a shit load of hand to hand combat. In latter day Trek, the tendency has been to use phasers in the action scenes. One thing that TOS always had was people knocking eachother about, they rarely resorted to phasers. I hope they bring that back.

Except of course the end of every TNG film made, which included hand to hand combat between two old or dying people... now THAT'S what brings in the crowds ;) Picard, Kirk, Soran. Picard, Borg Queen. Picard, Ru'afo. Picard, Shinzon.

Yeah, but Stewart was in better physical shape than the majority of the twenty-somethings sitting in American theaters munching their popcorn, if NIH studies are to be believed.

^^^
Haa!, Stewart didn't do as much as he should. Yea, I make fun of Bill Shatner and his 'Kirk Fu', but truth be told Shatner was doing classic wrestling moves, the standard for stunt fighter back then.

Shatner made for exciting fight scenes. Today it's a whole new thing, months of training, etc. And Martial Arts wasn't so mysterious as it was in the late 60s.

I suspect Chris Pine will do what Keanu Reeves does: Wire-fu, stunt doubles, and special effects trickery. I'm afraid Plum is right - I suspect that if we get two guys wrestling, one of them Pine, Pine won't pull a classic Shatner move.

The guy's got bigger guns than I do, that's for damn sure.

I never had a problem with Picard being able to mix it up now and again, it was just the fact that every single climax of a TNG movie featured him doing just that.

In other words, when the new movie Kirk is in a fight we have to get a wide shot and see a 40-year-old Asian guy with a moustache fighting in his place. :D

... funny, do ya think people back then thought TV could be so clear, with cable or HD. "Oh put a wig on 'em! No one will notice on TV."

"Here...this is Joey. He's a dwarf with a glass eye. Now all we'll have to do is slap a blue shirt on him, pop on a Ringo wig and voila! Instant Nimoy stand-in!"

"The Princess Diaries II" was on Disney last night, and I watched the last fifteen minutes of it. First time I'd seen Pine.

He's a natural for this, and if the material is good he'll kill. I don't know how much he'll remind people of Shatner, but he's perfect for Kirk.

You forget, he'd also have to be black.

AND have a pronounced lisp. But that's beside the point.
