The lady who owns the stables where I keep my horse has a small Shetland pony.
He’s much easier to look after than my messy horse, he takes like 5 minutes to skip out and 2 minutes to feed whereas my horse takes about 20 minutes to skip out and it takes me about half an hour to get her feed ready due to having to soak part of it and add a bunch of supplements.
Anyway, the Shetland pony lady, who is in her 70s by the way, is going away for a couple of weeks over Christmas.
I offered to feed the pony for her while she was away. She said she had arranged for a pet sitter to come twice a day to feed him.
So what’s the problem I hear you ask. Well she pays. Quite well for 5 minutes work.
I am beyond broke and deep in debt and could really use the extra cash especially at this time of year.
I told her this and reminded her that she had said I could feed the pony after she had got the sitter in to feed him in the summer.
She threw a bunch of excuses at me as to why she didn’t want me to feed him, which were all pathetic.
She said if anything went wrong then she wouldn’t want me to hang around in the cold for the vet to arrive. She seems to have forgotten that if my very big and heavy horse falls over then I have to wait for someone to arrive to help get her up, whether its warm and sunny or freezing cold and snowy!
I also have a support network who are willing to come and help me when I need it. I also know the pony better than the pet sitter as I see him everyday and am more likely to spot if something’s wrong with him.
I also have autosocks now in case it snows deep then I can at least get there to feed. I can’t see the pet sitter walking to feed in deep snow!
None of that made a difference to the lady whom I came to the conclusion doesn’t trust me to look after her pony while she's away.
It is a totally horribly and very upsetting feeling to know that your not trusted. I haven’t done anything that would make me untrustworthy.
I looked after the pony for a few days when the lady was away in June, and I did a better job than the sitter did in September especially since the pony was having asthma medication in June and I had to give him an inhaler twice a day.
The money for that helped a lot with the expenses for my August Vegas trip.
It upset me in September when she had the sitter feed the pony, but she apparently lied to me about letting me feed next time and this just hurts a lot.
The money would have meant more than a lot to me as my horse is eating double what im getting and I have nothing if she needs the vet.
I have no other way to make any extra cash. Anything I try to do to make extra money ends up costing me money, and anything I try and sell on eBay doesn’t sell. My credit cards are maxed out.
Now I just can’t talk to her at all. I’m just too upset.
