So about that naked River Song scene...

I'm surprised this wasn't brought up more often, but Season 6 has come and gone and there's something we never did see. Remember seeing an apparently topless River Song winking at somebody in the Series 6 trailer?

Some details have emerged about that (as well as another missing scene involving Nazis in the trailer) in the new Doctor Who Magazine Special Edition, and here reported by a couple of fan sites:

The sad part is it sounds like there's no deleted scenes in the Series 6 box so we'll probably have to wait till someone sneaks them on to YouTube (alongside the blooper reels for Remembrance of the Daleks and the 1996 TV movie).

I'd assumed the Nazi clip was trimmed from the "Great Escape" section of "Impossible Astronaut". The fact Moffat cut the topless River because he felt it was "too much" for Doctor Who is definitely a change from the days when RTD gave us naked Jack in "Bad Wolf"!

One of them was Robert Patrick and Torri Higginson kissing on the ramp to the Stargate. I kept waiting for this scene to come up in the episode but it never did nor was there any hint at a relationship.

IIRC, that was just the actors playing around, and not actually part of any scene. Certainly nothing filmed that could end up in a trailer.

"Boobies" is one of the nicer words used for bureaucrats actually. Or just boobs.

According to an interview with Barrowman on the DVDs, it was planned to show his bare ass in that scene, but BBC stepped in at the last minute and said that was going too far.

Indeed. Higginson and Patrick knew there was someone on set taking photographs for promotional purposes, so as soon as the director said "cut" they decided to kiss each other just to mess around with fans.

I don't have to be 16 to know that a woman approaching fifty isn't going to look that great topless. Kingston is a pretty good-looking woman for her age yes, but this isn't her from her early ER days or anything.

????? How can one possibly compare Betty White's age to Alex Kingston's?
Betty White is a couple months shy of 90.
Alex Kingston is barely more than half her age at 48?????

Well I certainly agree with them cutting the nakedness . As I have often been told I am very prudish, I'm more the ankle length skirt type of girl (at least that's what my wardrobe is full of...).Not that Kingston is not a very beautiful woman, she is (frankly in my opinion she's the only major character in this arc who doesn't look like their skipping high school... its nice to have a character who isn't "cute").

However I am disappointed they cut the dialogue, as listed in the articles. I love these short humorous bits of dialogue, its a pity they cut the wardrobe that's "bigger on the inside".

Also mentioning the number of times River had escaped at that point would have been intresting. perhapes adding a additional puzzle piece to her chronology. (if the Doctor takes her out of Stormcage at least once on her birthday it would have meant at that point she had been there a maximum of 15 years)

Not sure what all the excitement [stroke] disappointment is all about, given Doctor Who is always written and shot with a family audience in mind! Even the finalised scene, dropped for timing reasons is probably not nearly as titillating as what's going on in your head.
