Spoilers SNW photo: 'IT'S A FAAAAAKKKKEE'

truthchampion

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
You may remember Vreenak from ds9 and that famous line.

This pertains to the SNW photo of Wesley sitting in a bridge chair.

Esteemed and renowned Star Trek aficionados Captain Foley and Samuel Cockings have analyzed the photo in detail and have raised doubts that it is actually Wesley sitting in the chair.

Their contention is that the head of Wesley has been photoshopped on someone else's body.

The bring evidence in the form of shoulder pads ,lighting ,head size mismatch ,creases in the uniform the positions of the hands on the armrests which is suspiciously similar to another photo which they show in a compare/contrast
study. Also the right hand arm crease matching the other photo.

They also comment on the lack of chair wood grain in the photo as well.

Coincidentally they also had a fan film in the works called Forward Farragut which is associated with Kirk in the early years.

It's possible, but it's only a promotional photo, so nothing I'm putting much stock in (except for the bridge not being the color of the Enterprise bridge).

NBC airbrushed Spock's ears into human ones early on, so publicity photos aren't anything to really get that vested in.

There are far too many creases on the uniform and near the trouser line its seems partially folded inwards.

And? I’m struggling why this needed a thread? CBS has announced that Wesley is playing Kirk. Who cares if they photoshopped him in the captain’s chair?
Who cares are a couple guys on YouTube (one of which says his name so fast he's speaking gibberish) who are pissed that the fan film they want to make has probably been rendered obsolete by this casting news (and if they're in charge of making a fan film, it wouldn't be something I'd want to watch anyway).

Yeah, no.

Sorry.

Also, you got the Farragut Forward stuff exactly wrong in every detail. It's set during the period of time around TWOK, they are still in the process of constructing their main set which is a replica of a movie-era bridge that in no way resembles the nuEnterprise of SNW, and the films have nothing at all to do with Kirk or the Enterprise. Period.

I didn't get that off of Youtube. I've been out to see Forward's stage and preproduction work, just the other week.

So, this is a bad and unnecessary premise for a topic.

It could have been a post in the "News From Dubious Sources" topic.

Thank you, and Good Night.

Who cares if they photoshopped him in the captain’s chair?

If they photoshopped him in then we would be wrong to draw any plot conclusions from him wearing the Enterprise Delta (since he's wearing a different insignia in the location photos.)

Well, many publicity stills are substantially 'shopped in one way or another to serve their PR purpose. What's significant is that the studio has confirmed that Wesley is on the show portraying James T. Kirk.

The still is in use by Paramount+ itself, so it's been cleared and reflects the studio's intent.

Also to note, despite Wesley wearing a different emblem in the location shots, the Starfleet delta is in wide use on non-Enterprise personnel throughout the fleet in the modern Trek shows - as was the original intent of the TOS producers.

I know, and that startrek.com article from a few years ago did a nice job of explaining it. The fact that he's wearing a different badge after that concept was abandoned after TMP makes me think that the writers might have decided to officially explain why we occasionally see other insignia in this era.

Sounds good to me. I like the different ship assignment patches and would prefer them to return.
