Snap Ships

I’m a greenie hound, and would love to put the weapon emplacements on found shapes.

For instance—I’m sure we all played with the old stand alone Glade air-fresheners...the ones that look like RPG warheads?

Well, there has been a redesign of the lower half, and it is quite visually interesting

Excellent. I wasn't going to originally, but it looks like I'll get each set at least once.

Btw, I also watched the first six episodes of the 8-part series. I like how they involve the Snap-construction in-universe but otherwise it's Saturday morning cartoon corny.

Yeah, it's definitely geared more for kids, but I honestly don't mind. It's not all surprising. :)

Here are a couple of my original designs. First up is a transport vessel, the Sokanon.

I had some fun working on a traditional long range hauler, one that's probably been modified a bit but isn't too different from the stock model. There's some spare cargo pods on top and some extra fuel cells installed.

I originally just built this one, the Charon, as a quickie, and I'd like to think it's an independent vessel someone improved over time. It has a few missile batteries for defense but is more geared for exploration.

The core wings here are the ones I was describing from the Trident design.

I love how you were able to build the shoot-missiles into the Sokanon in such a way that you don't accidentally trigger them!

It was fun to give it some minor weaponry, of a sort. :D I had a lot of fun with this design:

This class, nicknamed the Soaring Griffin, is specialized for salvage, construction, rescue and similar operations. It carries no weaponry, but has four modular equipment bays on the upper and lower wings.

The lower assemblies mount the primary equipment such as tractor beams, fusion welders and so forth. The upper wings on this model have a trio of thrusters for precise movements, and a pair of long solar capacitors for storing spare energy. This array can both prolong the Griffin's mission life as well as being used to repower a crippled ship.

To better protect the standard Griffin in combat zones, the Thunder Griffin has been introduced for escort duties. Though still being evaluated, it has shown considerable promise.

Swapping out the normal support gear, the Thunder Griffin mounts an impressive arsenal. Two experimental gatling cannons and four SCAR-4 pulse laser turrets are used for precision strikes, along with a pair of triple cannons. While the SCAR-4 is mainly a light weapon designed for fast recon ships, and lacks the hitting power of larger models, it's more effective in arrays.

Eight XR220 missile pods (four forward and four aft) give it a ranged punch, along with a pair of Mk 48 Shipbreaker missiles. Two XR70 missile pods are mounted above and below the central engines, to better protect them. One drawback of this configuration is that the Thunder Griffin has only average speed and maneuverability, since the Soaring Griffin is not a military design. Its armor is also modest, but the firepower tends to make up for it. It's hoped that it will also prove effective as a ground support unit.

Very high tech. I have often collected used air fresheners for bridges and paint lids for saucer bases--these bits would look good on them.

Sorry to derail things with a make rant--but the biggest thing since the UV glue seems to be here...

Magnetocuring glues that don't need UV light!

I always thought the TMP refit drydock was a field antenna for something similar--and to look for degaussing hotspots, etc.

I saw on the official Facebook/Twitter accounts that it looks like Wave 3 is on its way! The Javelin and the Tunnelweb are up for order on the Playmonster store, and it looks like there will be several other designs - the Claymore and Maul, with the Komplex getting the Spitter as well. Looks like a range of new parts to play around with. :D

Now if only I can afford all the sets I'd like to add.... :rommie:

Great!

i hope they do some capital ship hulls to mix and match. Javelin has a nice nacelle look I see...

Yeah, I'm tempted to say the complete "arm" is several different components, but the nacelle style caps are certainly interesting. The Spitter also seems to have a sort of flattened "bubble" cockpit along with some nice missiles and wings.

I've found in some of my own builds that the angled parts normally meant to hold the wheels/treads for the wave 1 ground units make excellent pylons for nacelles and such, so I'd love to experiment more. :) Really good if you want that sort of distinctive structure. I used those elements on the Griffin design, using both sets of angles.

Maybe it's been a long day at work but the only thing I understand when reading is "Power Ranger Morphin' suit".

So at the recent Gen Con in September, it was announced that there will be an official gaming module (Snap Ships Tactics) that is planned for a 2022 Kickstarter. From the look of it, it seems to be a way to adapt the existing designs into a gaming form with what looks like elements from X-Wing Miniatures and similar systems.

I think this is a cool direction, because one application I've been thinking of since the sets first launched is their use in gaming. There's so much mileage one can get for a variety of existing games, just by having the fun of being able to build your own units. :)

Now this might seem unrelated..but hold on for a moment:

I think it might be a good idea for the beauty packaging industry to be contacted by snap ships or others where spent containers are designed from the start---to become space toys once the products have been used up.

That they have a space angle here means they may be open to being dedicated greeble suppliers.
