Smallville’s upcoming Justice Society-themed two-parter has added another headliner. Exec producer Kelly Souders confirms that the highly anticipated eppys (titled “Society” and slated to air in early 2010) will mark the return of Phil Morris as Martian Manhunter.

Penned by comic book hero Geoff Johns, “Society” marks the arrival of Justice Society members Hawkman, Doctor Fate, and Stargirl. The abundance of special guest stars is what prompted Souders and fellow showrunner Brian Peterson to expand the episode into two parts.

Awesome news. This will be as good as Legion was last season. I wish they'd hire Geoff to consult on the series.

Oh good. They needed to make sure Clark and Lois had lots of time to flirt awkwardly with each other and to demonstrate just how big of a whiney pussy Clark is as a person (either while flirting or "saving the world" -- something I don't think I've ever seen him do once yet; at best, he's cleaned up his own mistakes).

So you still watch the show every week?

Having heard and discussed this in another thread, I was hoping there'd be more JSA members. Sort of sounds like they picked the ones that were the cheapest to license. Except maybe for Hawkman the others seem kinda "second stringy". I mean, OK, I understand why they couldn't get Green Lantern or The Flash or Wonder Woman (who was I believe a JSA member back in the early days). But they could have picked up a few more of the characters, plus maybe Power Girl.

I can't wait, these are the type of episodes where Smallville shines.

:)

Geoff Johns wrote Justice Society of America and so I assume had carte blanch over his selection of characters that he probably thought would be feasible in the Smallville universe. I was kind of hoping that we'd get Captain Marvel or at least a version of him but I'm very pleased with the characters that were picked, especially Stargirl, love Courtney in the comic.

Ehh, as I recall Dr. Fate was a founding Society member, and with the love Geoff has for Stargirl (he created her in memory of his sister, right?), I'm not surprised by Courtney's inclusion.

Bishop, you are not your Avatar.

Geoff gets a new cash settlement every time they use Courtney in a new medium right?

I very much doubt that. Warner Brothers would have the ultimate say who gets used for what.

This show is still on??

Hey, at this point, it's the longest-running superhero tv show ever.

Is it?

Is it really a show about super hero?

Sure he's finally put on a costume, but the first 8 years could have been the Dukes of Hazzard the next generation, and like y'know, the superpowers could be explained from all that Duke inbreeding.

You think Daisy could have made smarter offspring with Enos, rather than Bo?

It's not too similar to many Superman comics I have read. Smallville is like an "It's a wonderful life" temporal edit of if there had been no Superboy, who Johns is reintroduing into Earth One after Byrne removed him after the original Crisis. the latest issue where Superboy meets the legion for the First time is fantastic as they actually discuss amongst themselves all the redletter days in DCU history that they will NEVER reveal to this kid they're trying to befriend from Doomsday to Zod.

Until this new season, the show had been more science fiction than super heroics, and then teen melodrama more than either of those, hells there was a fair chance that this Smallvillian timeline would never lead to the creation of Superman. As a child I used to adore the Powers of Matthew Star and Starman. Aliens on earth with powers well beyond those of mortal men.

However, if you want to strike a comparison to "Superman's Girlfriend Lois Lane" Comics? That'ne is striking alittle closing to the truth.
