two items... My wife noticed that clark seems to have a habit of having fathers die in his arms on the farm. and item two.... with these clones they still have the movie time line intact... you can still have zod flying thru space in the giant rotating mirror...
they can even kill the clone if they wanted/needed.

Awwww... has this turned into a how i lost my family thread... I was seven... he died because of a stupid mistake... the mechanic told him that the cesna's engine was acting funny... it crashed... I was seven... I'm fifty now... you get over it... people die from making stupid mistakes all the time... mom... died about 10 years ago...

ok who's next!

Zod and/or his people wind up killing Clone Jor-El who dies in Clark's arms, losing another father.

Good call, Dagman. It'll be interesting to watch Clark try to resolve his guilt over this as time goes on.

Yeah, I totally nailed that one. I was a bit off on how Clone Jor-El got up to date, with Chloe telling him the story instead of AI Jor-El downloading memories to him. My stating that the Kandorians were clones since the premiere episode thread was just confirmed as fact however. So, like I said in last week's thread, I may get a few details wrong but the overall gist I can generally peg. I suppose I am now justified in removing those theory disclaimers now.

And while you all were looking at how Superman-ish this episode was, I am surprised you guys missed a big one. When Jor-El first arrives at the Kent farm, the truck that dropped him off looked like the same one Glenn Ford drove in Superman, The Movie. Yes, the one that toddler Kal-El picked up when it fell off the jack just after the Kents found him. Same make, model and color. A 1938 Ford F50.

And there was another one too. Chloe's line at the beginning when Clark told her he kissed Lois she said something like he's been in love with her since the 1930s! And he has. Since 1938 in fact, the year Action Comics #1 was published.

The blue-K and the creation of the Orb and the stones of knowledge explanation also makes some sense. It touches on why Clark also lost his powers when Lex stuck the Orb in the Fortress' control console at the end of the season before last, as well as why the Orb caused the Fortress to unmake itself. Obviously, Original Jor-El sent those artifacts back in time and seeded the pieces of the puzzle of how to find them throughout Earth's history. The Kandorians are going to be pissed when they learn Clark only got his powers back after his Orb encounter by being flown into the heart of our sun, and that Clark can't fly to do the same for them. Will Kara's presence on Earth be kept quiet from them? I suppose she could be off-planet now doing some exploring, if she's lucky. Still, the Kandorians will have their solar tower they showed last week to do the job.

I would have really liked to have seen Clone Jor-El meet with AI Jor-El though. The clone had the emotions, the AI the missing knowledge. It would have been very interesting to see. Clark should have turned on the speed and gotten him there at the end of the ep so AI Jor-El could have saved himself. Oh well, I knew they couldn't let him live.

Sorry, I missed the usual banter. This episode is really conspicuously different, I feel like I missed an episode or two in between. Nice guest turn by Julian Sands and the occasional outdoor scenes helped break things up a little too.

We need a counter for "Number of people Clark has buried in the back of Kent farm"

I'd like to think that she's having adventures with her own Scooby gang in spin off series not meant to be :D

Wow I can't remember the last time I watched an episode of Smallville that was this good. Julian Sands was a great choice to play Jor-El.

I really loved the backstory they introduced between Zod and Jor-El and it really does put more of a sympathetic light on Zod even with what he later became. He really did seem like a decent guy before he watched Kandor destroyed before him and lost his wife and son.

It also explains some of what drove him later on to create Doomsday when he couldn't have a child with Faora. Some part of him still desperately clung to and sought out having a child even though it became twisted and depraved.

If there's one complaint I have it's that we never saw clone Jor-El interact with the fortress or have an actual conversation with Clark (just a couple words before he died)

Sorry for your mom, Pro. :(

Thanks, Dude. She had been ill for a very long time.

Sorry to hear that you lost your mom Procutus, what did she die of if I may ask?
Also back in January 1988 I lost my father from complications with COPD,and he died on his birthday that he shared with MLK the 15th at age 72.I'm glad I still have my mom.

She passed away at the end of February, due to complications from cancer. Sadly, my wife and I then lost our best friend ten days later from cancer as well.

But I'm lucky enough to still have my dad and I keep close eyes on him these days.

An excellent episode over all. I think Clark should have taken Jor-el back to the fortress to bury however. The AI-EL might have found a way to reanimate him for future use.
Also enjoyed the look at Krypton. Very consistant with what we have seen from Kryptonians on this show in the past. Very emotional, violent beings. Thankfully Clark landed at the Kent farm and this violence was not part of his growing up. The AI-EL was right to be worried that Clark might grow up to be like his people.

I voted average. Great opportunity with Jor-El is wasted. :sigh: Most of my vote was because Lois Lane did not appear. That always makes this show look better.

Best ep in a long time. Now I finally understand Doomsday and Zod and what is going on. I really appreciate the clear backstory. And although I am not married to the 1970's superman movie look like everyone seems to be, I really liked the way it was used here.

GREAT EPISODE.

First off Happy Belated Birthday to Brent...Procutus regards on the loss of your mom...and I was moving yesterday so I missed the episode. Will try and catch it tonight or tomorrow and post my thoughts. Been looking forward to this episode.

You have an eye for detail, I have to admit I never would've picked up on the truck being the same type. I think that a lot of time and caring went into the making of this ep, and it really showed in the final product.

I thought Chloe's comment at the beginning seemed a bit odd, given the show's context, never thinking that it was a vague reference to the comic mythos. Now it makes sense, though it still sounds a bit strange in the Smallville continuity. Still, if the producers and we, the audience, can't have fun with this thing, then what's the point?

I thought the line was lame. I really saw no purpose in using a line that sounded forced and cheesy. It didn't fit with this episode. If the kiss was such a big deal, why do an episode like Kandor after with out Lois in the episode.

The Dagman,

Thanks pointing out the truck I wasn't paying attention, but hindsight it was a good call on your part.

I might have to re run The episode in the new year to catch the truck scene.I'm still busy trying to find work to no avail, and I managed to get a renewal of my state's UI benefits for 33 weeks more, but I hope that I'll find some work soon.

The best episode of the season so far. Darn it, still hate I missed the "Metallo" one though. I thought Julian Sands was a good choice to play Jor-El, and the show did answer some questions while setting up the inevitable Zod/Clark showdown in good fashion.

Major Zod wasn't even so annoying either, though I still think he overdoes his lines. I liked the delving into his backstory, and his relationship with Jor-El. I had always hoped they would go with a spoiled friendship angle, a replay perhaps of the Clark-Lex friendship. I liked Jor-El's dying wish and his guilt that his decision not to clone Zod might've been the thing that changed his former friend and turned him into the wannabee dictator that destroyed Krypton.

Didn't like how Chloe is just spying on Clark and seems so blase about it. I wonder if they are going to do anything with her seeming to manipulate people when she feels its for the greater good.

A few questions:

Is Kandor a planet or a city in the Smallville universe?

Also, why does Zod and the new arrivals consider themselves Kandorians instead of Kryptonians?

What is Black Zero?
