CWTV:

Clark (Tom Welling) discovers that Kara (Laura Vandervoort) sent messages from Krypton in the past that indicate that Brainiac (guest star James Marsters) wants to kill Baby Kal-El so Clark will not exist in the future.

Clark is torn because he thinks the world would be better off if he had never arrived in Smallville. Jor-El arranges for him to see what life would have been like if Clark hadn't existed - Lex (Michael Rosenabum) is President of the United States, Kara is raised by the Luthors, Jonathan (John Schneider) is alive, Lana (Kristin Kreuk) is happily married and Chloe (Allison Mack) and Lois (Erica Durance) are ace reporters.

Aaron Ashmore also stars.
Tom Welling directed the episode written by Turi Meyer & Al Septien

I'm posting this a little early because I may not be in to watch it tonight.

Down-voting this. Superman doesn't need X-Men villains. And how much did the rights cost? I bet they killed off Lionel just to afford a Marvel big bad.

;)

I'll respond to some stuff in the synopsis above without spoiling too much.

OK, I might spoil things just a wee bit.

There were some good moments in this episode, especially between Lois and Clark. It was like watching a Smallville version of Lois & Clark in a few places. The two of them did seem to have some good chemistry this time since they were in the city as reporters and not kids out on the country farm like in past episodes. There was also more sexual tension, especially from Lois since she didn't know Clark in this alternate timeline. And yes, they twisted Welling's arm and got him to put on the glasses. He managed to get 'em off as quickly as possible though. As for the rest of the episode, unfortunately they had to work around the fact that a lot of actors weren't available. In other words, no Lana and no Jonathan although they were mentioned. The trip to Krypton was pretty lame as well. Technobabble got Clark there offscreen and not much happened for something that should have been a big deal. A few other problems I had with the episode were that Krypton was being destroyed and Jor-El was nowhere to be found when it was time to launch baby Kal-El to Earth, and I don't think it was ever explained how Lex could be President. He's not 35 yet (edit: on second thought, these alternate events could have taken place a bit in the future, but I didn't see any indication of that). We didn't even get a White House set. They simply dressed up the Luthor mansion to look more presidential (they added a presidential seal carpet). Oh, and another thing, I didn't know that this alternate version of events was a set-up created by Jor-El until after Clark was back from that alternate reality and Jor-El explained what he had done. I actually thought he entered another timeline.

Now for the ending. There was a scene between Clark and Lex that left me wishing that Clark had told Lex the truth. There are two episodes left this season. I hope he comes around in the end.

Wow, it sounds to me like this one should've been a two-parter.

Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing it later on tonight.

Well, i'm looking forward to it, hopefully it'll be better than last weeks crap fest.

Finally done with accelerated classes after graduating so now I can watch a Smallville episode without wasting dvd R discs.

Thanks for the review becuase I might not be able to watch it tonight either...my roommate has been sleeping over at his girlfriends house for the past couple of nights but he might be back tonight and thus occupy the television set (it is his afterall). It seems like a really interesting episode and much better than last week's crap fested filler episode. I would say that is a good description for much of this season, a crap filler episode followed by a decent to awesome episode! I wonder if this episode was originally planned as a two parter but material was cut due to the strike?

Most important question: since Lex is president does that mean he has competent security?

I'll watch tonight's episode on bootleg on Youtube, since I work nights, haven't had a VCR hooked up to my tellly in years and think Tivo was a member of the Jackson Five.

Just because I've gotten PMs asking me if this is true: No Apocalypse from the Marvel comics WILL NOT be appearing in tonight's episode.

Seriously?

I wonder what Wellings reason are for hating the glasses so much he writes it in his contract that he won't wear them. I know about the change stating he gets final approval on clothes.

As Agent Richard07 pointed out above, I'm having a bit of a hard time wrapping my mind around the notion that Lex could be President in the current time-frame, since he should be 30 at the oldest (about eight years older than Clark).

Unless this alternative universe is set five years ahead of our time, making him old enough to get elected.

Just something that bugs me.
