Of course I watch episodes on the basis other than following the overall arc but that is still an important facet of following a series. Clark is a fixed character...we all know that he is supposed to follow a certain set of parameters to their logical conclusion...so far he's been...lacking in that.

You'd think that clark would have his happy thought by now.... what with being engaged and all and finding his 'siginificant other'.... what kind of epiphany does clark have to have before he does...

Yep...if that is what is keeping from flying (and really it shouldn't be since we've seen other Kryptonians fly about all the time) then he should have been flying after he and Lois had sex earlier this season lol.

by the way, the castaways got home and the Fugitive was exonerated.

.

True, but nobody ever tuned into an old-fashioned episodic show expecting there to be progress in those storylines. Or complained that nothing happened in them.

"Hey, that episode of THE FUGITIVE was just filler. He didn't getting any closer to catching the one-armed man!"

I tend to approach SMALLVILLE the same way. He'll get there when he gets there.

Oh, i agree.

But this is the final season.

We are quickly approaching the final episode.

It's like the Sultan finally gets to nail Scheherazade.

(Where the fuck did that come from?)

I creamed myself when the producers of DS9 said "We can't wrap everything up in a two parter. Hell. A three parter wouldn't come close to touching the sides... We're probably going to need a 14 episode story to get everyone resolved"

Despite any complaints about the final product that's an A fricasseeing +++ for effort and a standard I like to hold hold most shows to during their last gasps that even an episodic collection of dead ends and bottle episodes like Star Trek can break their format, rally and circle the wagons for their final hours to deliver a fine tantirc money-shot that they think their audience deserves

There's something to be said for that approach, too. I thought that MONK, which was largely an old-fashioned episodic series, did a good job of tying up loose ends up over the entire course of their final season. They saved the biggie--Monk catching his wife's killer--for the finale, of course, but they didn't try to do everything in the last ep. The various supporting and recurring characters got some closure and send-offs over the course of the final season.

Natalie got a new boyfriend, her daughter was shipped off to college, Randy got a new job, etc.

I only caught half of the ep, and it was OK. I confess, I kind of gave up on Smallville after last season. I've seen a handful of eps this season. The prevoius week's ep with the alternate dimension where Clark is Lionel's adopted son was probably the best of the few I've seen.

I also have to admit I really liked seeing Granny Goodness and Godfrey, the ep delving in to Tess (a character I don't like) and the hint of Darkseid coming. I've always felt you needed Darkseid to make an appearance, as he's one of the most menacing foes Superman has ever faced who didn't originate in the Superman comics (always been a fan of Jack Kirby's Fourth World characters.)

Maybe Clark finally flies so he can knock Darkseid on his ass.

Nice seeing Hawkman again and some of the other Justic Society/Infinity characters.

Smallville "Icarus" Overnight Ratings...

2.57 Rating (in millions of viewers)

1.0/4 Ages 18-49 Demo

Last week...2.79. Down a little but not too bad.

If anyone cares.

One thing I love about SMALLVILLE is they keep ignoring Kryptonite Girl...I guess no KK=no Lana...but S9!? Again with S10 and all the heroes...isn't she a hero??? Why give her those kind of powers if they can't make use of them???

I wonder if they will have Michael Shanks back now...it seems like they are setting up for a return and the report that this would be his last episode was just a misdirection which is totally promised. We were also promised Hawkgirl (not just Sheyera) so I'm guessing they'll both be back in their next incarnation without an explanation for how they found each other again in typical Smallville style...and yeah the folks who maintain Smallville Wiki (I think there are a couple people from K-Site) do a really great job at recapping episodes.

Carter and Shiera are supposed to reincarnate, which means their souls should inhabit infants.

But more than likely their souls will take over someone else, in their twenties with all their memories. This can be Shanks last episode without being the last time we see the Hawks on Smallville

I agree, there should be at least some mention of her in those regards and not how her and Clark didn't work out. Hope she comes back to help resolve this VRA arc, with Hawkman down.

I saw the procession but fuck me, who is that in the red leather? Is it Speedy, Red Arrow or Just Bart, but even bart would have been a nice sight to behold.

So yes, billions of dollars are being used to create and maintain laws to keep down less than a dozen people who think that they are above the law?

And where did this Keen Act/Super Hero Registration Act come from? We got a warning last week that paperwork was being shuffled and...

ZANG!

It all went from Riverdale to Doomstad overniight.

And is Kat a moron?

A person of principle continues to maintain with their convictions about right and wrong even if it against their best interest. Vigilantism is wrong. Saving peoples lives in the wrong way is wrong. If these super menaces help out a few people here and there it doesn't countermand all the wrong they are doing by demolishing the sense of order in the universe once Joe Six pack can't rely on his fire department and police to save the day when it could be Iron Man drunk off his tits repulsoring the fuckity out of everything positive that might equals right and their is no blood alcohol limit to super heroing... For every Superman there are a hundred D-Mans or wife beaters like Hank Pym.

By this logic Kat has, that servicing her equals loyalty, even blindly, if Deathstroke or Darkseid was to save kat from some plight, then they too would gain her instant loyalty because they paid her off/bribed her with not letting her become dead or injured that she would flip flop and hate the heroes again, but if they weren't to save her life and just claim that they had done so at some point ages ago when she wasn't looking, then she would still equally be a loyalist of whoever was insisting to be her best saviour that day.

Worst magic Beans ever.

She has no reason to trust Clark about important things, and telling her what se did he all but admitted that he had enough proprietary knowledge to be heavily involved in the world of super terrorism if not a terrorist himself. How often do you let Terrorists explain that they are just misunderstood?

(Does she still think that Lois is the Blur?)

Ultimate Spider-Man had a talking to from SHIELD about this last week after he caused 2 million dollars worth of damage to stop an 8 thousand dollar robbery.

These super thugs need accountability before some one, a lot of people die

(Enter the new Jimmy "The Blur killed my Brother")

Kal needs to be sent out with a bucket of white wash and deal to all this graffitti he's responsible for... Have you any idea how much it is costing the city to clean up after this tagger? Children write on walls, adults get streets, schools, suburbs and cities named after them.

It's genetic though when you consider the effectiveness of Zods invasion.

Cat isn't a moron...there is alot going on around her she doesn't understand. Clark saved her in "Shield" and she called him a real hero because Clark wasn't hiding in the shadows...I think she grew to trust Green Arrow aka Oliver Queen after their run ins. I don't think she is a goose stepping vigilante hater as she was painted early on...I think she is confused by what she hears via Godfrey and what she sees heroes not being the boogie men...plus GA lost alot of points being connected to a "terrorist act". She would be a moron is she just kept locked stepped with all the anti-hero hate and not consider what Lois was saying. She isn't in the know here and when she gets close she gets sabotaged or laughed at by Tess for the sake of the cover up...hardly Cat's fault.

I guess Chloe wasn't going to tell Lois the truth. That she is just a consolation prize because Wheelchaired Crippled One-Eyed Lex put a kryptonite cockblock on Clark. Never having Clark decide on his own to end the relationship and move on did a lot of damage to his character as it showed his inability to develop and move on.

Ah, yes, Super Lana. The genius writers decided to give her all of Clark's powers and none of his weaknessess. Brilliant.

Last season, I said she was the most logical person to bring in to fight Zod and company. She would literally bring them to their knees because they couldn't get near her. But not even a reference and she wasn't on the vigilante wanted poster that Lois was holding. While I'd like to forget the whole Super Lana business, the writers opened a can of worms there.

by the way, the castaways got home and the Fugitive was exonerated.

At the end of the series Clark will still pretty much be himself no closer to becoming Superman than he is now. The screen will pull back and a narration will start, voiced by Bo Kent, and say "And eventually Clark grew up and became Superman by, oh let's say... Moe."

I just have this uneasy feeling that the same Clark we see now, will be the same Clark we see wearing the suit and flying off like Superman, i.e., it won't really have changed by then, it'll just the douchy Clark we all know and love wearing the suit, no difference.

I think Brent is talking about Clark as a character, his personality and demeanor. He still doesn't strike me as a hero. I agree with Brent's assessment. This is what I'm talking about when I talk about my concerns with character development. I still don't buy this guy somehow magically evolves into Superman over the course of the next few months.
