Slings & Arrows...will it be printed?

"ALL THESE WORLDS

LANDING THERE
USE THEM TOGETHER
USE THEM IN PEACE"

...I was led to believe that by 2010, Dolphins would be house pets. Where the fuck are my Dolphins Roy:shifty:?

Oh man. It has been so long since I've seen that movie. When I was a kid, 2001 scared the hell out of me but I loved 2010, I watched it like 40 times.

I did eventually read the book when I got older, and am fully aware that by any legitimate standard it's far superior to the movie, but I have such nostalgia value on that film.

^As soon as Christopher said "2010" all I could think of was the movie. I went home, popped in the machine, and really enjoyed myself. I was the same as you...as a kid, 2001 alternated between scaring me and boring me to tears, while I found 2010 quite enjoyable. After watching it, and your recommendation, I think i'll check out the book :). Maybe even try 2001 again ;).

I had the same problem with 2001 when I was younger, but now that I'm older and more patient I actually really like it. I'm also a big fan of 2010. Does anyone know why they stopped there with the movies?

^Not sure. Wasn't there a 2061 (?) book and a 3001 book? I like to see the people of Europa. I wonder how much warmer Mars would be with the second star in the sol system? Maybe habitable...

I remember very little of either novel, but what I do remember is enough to suggest stopping after 2010.

Also worth noting is that MGM started its financial downslide not long after 2010 was released, being bought and sold and split and merged, making a new big-budget effects-heavy SF movie far less attractive to whoever was running the studio any given week.

What exactly is Slings & Arrows? A series of individual novels? Or a collection of short stories?

A six-part eBook miniseries published in 2007-2008 to celebrate TNG's 20th anniversary. It chronicled the first year of the Enterprise-E's service, leading up to First Contact.

Like the Starfleet Corps of Engineers series and the Mere Anarchy miniseries, they're novella-length stories originally published electronically, later reprinted in codex book format. However, Slings and Arrows hasn't (yet) been scheduled for a book reprint.
