I find this kind of funny, because the stuff that he is complaining about, is actually the stuff that has gotten me interested in the series. I've always been curious to see how things like the DW, and Leyton's coup affected the Enterprise, and I have been dying to find out why Geordi switched from his VISOR to the implants. I've always been kinda mad that they didn't put in some kind of line or something to explain the VISOR-implant change in the TNG movies.

Friend, reading many of your comments online contributes much more to the sour taste in my mouth when I think of reading your work than the story concepts every could. Perhaps you'd care to re-read the last sentence of my post where I clearly admit that these impressions are solely based off of the concepts as they've been presented to us (which I am allowed to do, by the way). Or do I have to watch every episode of Desperate Housewives before I can decide that the basis doesn't thrill me? And no where whatsoever have I made any comments that could be seen as "baselessly slamming your work (or the work of others)." If you choose to see it that way, then you've got work to do on either an excessive desire for confrontation or an inferiority complex.

And I'd also like to thank Christopher for being one person addressing my statements in a respectful manner even though he clearly disagrees with me and I still think that he's missing some of the points I was trying to make.

I'm glad to hear it appeals to you. I hope that the fact that they're ebooks won't be holding you back from reading them. I'll still try and check them out and I hope I find them more engaging than a few of the concepts alone do.

Slings and Arrows is treating the year leading up to First Contact as if it were (sort of) a season of TNG airing at the same time as the late fourth/early fifth season of DS9. So the events are to some extent dictated by what was going on on DS9 at the time.

Part of the point of the miniseries is to show what the Big E was doing during this timeframe -- and also picking up on some of the TNG hits we got on DS9.

So Book 1 shows them dealing with a changeling infiltrator and spotlights Hawk. Book 2 shows what the Enterprise was doing during Leyton's coup attempt -- but also has Data dealing with his emotion chip and how it affects his ability to create art (and introduces the character of Padraig Daniels as the new security chief/tactical officer). Book 3 deals with one of DS9's TNG hits, to wit, Lwaxana's pregnancy in "The Muse," and also shows how and why La Forge switched from the VISOR to the optical implants. Book 4 focuses on Crusher and explains her animosity for the EMH as expressed in First Contact. Book 5 is another of DS9's TNG hits, showing how Riker deals with the Maquis and the betrayal of his "twin" Tom in "Defiant." And finally, Book 6 is a full-bore crossover, with the Enterprise going to Deep Space 9 and the two crews working together, and uses Picard's relationship with Gowron in the context of the animosity with the Klingons during this timeframe.
