SleepyTrek: what ep puts you to sleep?

True story:

When I was growing up, my Grandma wanted to watch the TOS reruns and then first run TNG episodes with me (She died halfway through TNG season 5.). When the show would start, she'd watch for literally two seconds, and then I'd hear snoring. One minute before the show ended, she'd wake up, and I'd hear "aw, shit!".

It didn't matter wiether it was TOS or TNG. This happened with both shows.

She tried to get around this by having me play my tapes of the two shows, but that didn't work. It was almost as if Star Trek acted as a sleeping pill for her. The same thing would happen when she'd have her tell me the plot of any given episode.

The strange thing was, she watched TOS back in the '60's with my mom.

I could never figure this out, and it used to annoy the hell out of her.

I'll have to agree with several of the others here and say TMP. The pace is unbearably sloooooooooow. I can never sit down and make it through the entire DVD.

True Story II:

My little girl always wanted to stay up and watch videos with her big brother and I. Unfortunately she was too young to watch scary or violent movies which we both loved.
I finally figured out that she would always fall asleep during the first 10 minutes anyway. We started letting her "stay up", she would fall asleep in 10 minutes, I'd carry her to bed, then un-pause the movie and we'd finish watching.
The important point was that we spent time together as a family. Now that she is grown with children of her own, she fondly remembers those times. Be happy that you shared that time together and enjoy your memories. :techman:

I have never found myself asleep while watching television. I'll press stop before that happens.

Kinda hard to press "stop" when you're watching an actual broadcast. (Yes, there are some of us old enough to remember watching Trek before TiVo and DVD.)

Most of Enterprise season 1 put me to sleep. Especially that episode where we spend 40 minutes watching Reed and Mayweather build a Vulcan snowman.

For me, it was the one with the Dream Aliens (Voyager)-seriously. I fell asleep cooking dinner when the episode was on. I was out for 2 days, but I was somewhere far away and I kept seeing the scary alien.

I just remembered this one (I guess I tried to forget):

I don't know the name of the episode, but the one where Data kept trying to erase everyone's memories over and over and over and.... to keep the aliens from killing them all for stepping on their grass/space.

Kad. - why didn't you like "In the Cards?" The ending sealed it- and so did the Jem'Hadar are Weyoun on the floor trying to figure out what was going on below them... hee hee... listening to the carpet... :P

The first episode I ever feel asleep during was Metamorphosis. I've always found that one incredibly dull.

That episode of Voyager where that old woman keeps thrusting her memories into Torres so she's having these dreams about prejudice with that alien culture. If I never see that episode again it'll be too soon.

In fact... I'd say most of Voyager. It's just my least favorite by far, plain and simple. I'll even take the cartoon over Voyager.

Word! Plus Enterprise and the TNG theatrical films, although I cherish the animated series less than you...
