Oh, that's not good. If the show does come back, it'll come back different. Hopefully they'll at least promote from within.
It definitely is concerning. I liked what to show was doing this season, so I just hope whoever takes over doesn't change things to much if it does come back. With the way the season ended they have an opportunity to totally revamp the show, hopefully they won't do to much of that.
Not sure he was fired - from the article it seems he got a nice big deal from CBS so he jumped.
What are you talking about? Goffman has been the showrunner since day one. He was responsible for the show's success in the first place.
If Sleepy Hollow is renewed, then this is Goffman falling on his sword for the declining ratings...

Either way, I wish him future success and hope that his CBS deal is fruitful and lucrative.

How in the world does getting a 2-year development deal with a major network constitute "falling on his sword?" It sounds like a promotion to me, not a punishment.
It sounds to me like his decision wasn't about Sleepy Hollow. If SH were his only consideration, he would've stayed. But he has a larger career to consider, and a deal like this, to develop his own shows, is a step up in that career. And maybe there was a finite window to accept the deal, so he couldn't wait around to hear about SH's renewal. Producers make decisions like that all the time. Heck, people in general often have to choose between a job they like and a better job that comes their way. No need to read any melodrama into it.

Whenever a showrunner leaves an ongoing show there's usually some kind of story behind it. Robert Hewitt Wolfe's departure frm Andromeda, Robert Rodat's from Falling Skies and even Gene Roddenberry step[ing back from the runninig of TOS. Whatever the story is though hardly matters, there's plenty of producers to make sure the show runs properly.
Yes, the majority of another board that I visit is doing a dance of joy at the news. When SH lost Kurtzeman. Orci, and...the 3rd showrunner (his name escapes me at the moment) to "Scorpion" (and other shows in development) it left Goffman in complete control. In their (and my) opinion, Goffman turned a fun, creepy, supernatural urban fantasy into a crappy soap opera. He also pushed Katrina to the fore and sidelined Irving, Jenny, and even Abbie. This demolished the amazing chemistry of the Core 4.
I whole heartedly welcome a change. I hope they get someone experienced in genre writing. I read an interview where Goffman said this was his first foray into this genre, and I think it really showed.
Hopefully if we get a third season, we'll have an experienced genre person who can bring the show back to the things that worked so well in season 1.

Oh, I hadn't realized there'd been a change in the staff since season 1. I figured the story changes were due to network meddling. Well, then, maybe this isn't such bad news after all.

The network meddling is actually what made the show somewhat better towards the end.
How involved were Kurtzman and Orci in the first season anyways? Did they have much involvement beyond the pilot? They always seem to have a lot of projects going on at the same time so how much of it were they able to devote to it? They 're executive producers on Scorpion this year but they're not really involved with that show a lot.
The two-year development deal isn't a punishment, it's a parachute.
At the TCAs in January, Fox executives were very vocal about the ratings slipping on Sleepy Hollow and they attributed it on the quality of the stories, saying that the show had lost its way creatively. They didn't mince around with the "tough timeslot" argument or "the audience just needs to find this show" defense. They blamed the show itself for its sophomore slump.
So, if the show returns for a third season, the Fox execs need to show their bosses that the mistakes of the second season have been addressed and corrected. These same Fox executives have already publicly declared their displeasure with the show's creative team at the TCAs, so the most obvious target becomes the head of the creative team, the show runner.
Therefore -- as I wrote upthread -- Goffman falls on his sword, the Fox execs have a new showrunner to march out as a model of course correction, and Sleepy Hollow lives to see another day. By "falling on his sword," I mean that he is quietly leaving his position without contesting the blame being placed squarely at his feet by his bosses.

It's hard to tell, they have three series to oversee and they were prepping the next Star Trek movie. But I do think this season's storylines were set up last season.
While they did do quite a bit of promotion and stuff in when the show first started, I haven't really heard their names associated with the show since then. Right now they kind of strike as the types who put their names on a show, and maybe help with some of the initial development, and then hand it off to other people and move on. I a haven't followed Scorpion since the pilot, so I don't know if they're more involved there.
