I just got around to watching Sleeper, the second episode of Torchwood's second season. While it was quite an interesting story, I can't help thinking that the writer seemed to have some kind of fetish for creating unnecessary deaths, in several cases of children and babies. There's the young woman who "awakens" as an alien agent, and consequently allows her baby, whom she had just been pushing in its pram, to be slammed into by a car. And after that other alien has killed Mr Grainger, for some reason he then proceeds to murder the man's two children, and possibly his wife as well. Why? IMO these kills served no real purpose, and didn't really do much for the plot, reminding me in some ways of the senseless murder of the character of Oscar in The Two Doctors.
