Sky1 Aquires House

Bob The Skutter

Complete Arse Cleft
In Memoriam
Sky1 has acquired the rights to US medical drama House, it has announced.
The channel has secured the first-run UK TV rights to the fifth series of the drama - starring Hugh Laurie - after completing a deal with NBC Universal International TV Distribution.
The show, which previously aired on Five, will air on Sky1 and Sky1 HD from the summer.

...
Five attributed the loss to having difficulties finding a "suitable slot" for House after the "tremendous performance" of their recent acquisition The Mentalist.
"Five will not be renewing its deal for the next series of House," confirmed a channel spokeswoman. "We have been proud to be associated with the drama, but have taken this difficult decision for commercial and scheduling reasons."

What are Five thinking? Isn't House one of their best rated shows, where as The Mentalist has been getting pretty low ratings?

I suppose "commercial" reasons simply means they couldn't afford it anymore.
As far as I knew Five already had the rights, but couldn't find a slot until the Autumn to air it. So I'm kinda thinking "Commercial reasons" might be that Universal are pissed at them, because they want to sell DVDs by the end of the year, and not in the middle of next, so have encouraged them to sell on the rights...

Hmm, I suppose that's possible. It's just really surprising that they wouldn't be able to somehow find a good spot for such a successful show.

Apparently they pushed it to show The Mentalist instead, I don't know why they would put on an unproven show instead of a proven one though.

Yeah, I saw that after I posted, but the latest overnights were lower.

The third episode of The Mentalist pulled in 2.93m (13.2%) for Five last night, according to the latest figures.
Last month, the US import - starring Simon Baker as psychic-turned-detective Patrick Jane - opened to 3.69m (16.7%), making it the most successful ever launch of any US drama shown on Five.

If i remember right 5 stole the show off hallmark so now sky has nick it off 5 i glad i D/L the show i have enough trouble finding out what time its on without having to workout what channel its on.
I bet the reel reason is that ch5 is short of a few pennies at the moment i heard ch4 might not be able to afford that housewife show ether.

I remember watching the first series on hallmark then 5 repeated it but for the 2nd series they swapped.

and that is crazy, Mentalist is ok, but its not THAT good.

meanwhile im sure when five launched Mentalist in the House slot, they said not to worry they would show House later on in the year.

I couldn't even make it through the first episode of Mentalist, so I can't say I even thought it was ok...

I like my CBS cop shows, but the Mentalist isnt nearly as good a quality as its other shows, certainly not as good as House
