SJA and classic companions

So far we've had the Brigidiar and (soon) Jo, although both hail from the Pertwee era. Unfortunately, Ian marter died in the 80s and there's really no possibility of a Sarah/Harry reunion.

It seems while Doctor Who uses monsters from the classic series, SJA is the more likely spin-off to feature previous companions.

In the video spin-off Downtime Sarah teamed up with Troughton companion Victoria (And Sarah of course wore one of her dresses in Pyramid Of Mars). It'd be cool if she showed up in SJA.


Any others do you think would fit?
 
Liz Shaw for certain. I wish it had been she, and not Useless, coming back for SJA. But it IS a kids' show, technically, and I suppose they want a "character" who is little more than a kid.

I won't count companions whose actors have died, or those who would not logically be on Earth during SJA's timeframe.

Ian - I don't see it. There's no point. Meeting up with the Doctor again, sure. But SJA? Naw.

Dodo - Easily. She isn't as familiar a companion as the others, since her stories are all but lost. However, she was in London in the 60s, and the actress now works as an agent for other DW actors, so why not?

Polly - Could happen, sure. Moffat seems to like the Second Doctor's era, and she is still around. Last we knew, she was in London in the 60s as well. Maybe she and Dodo have started their own detective agency?

Victoria - Easily. She was also a Second Doctor companion, and left him in the 60s, on Earth. She may have missed traveling with him, just like SJS did, and has been looking for him ever since.

Tegan - Oh heck yeah. She was last seen in the 1980s, on Earth. She traveled with - or at least had aventures with - six Doctors, so she'd have no trouble grasping an Eleventh. She's met Sarah Jane, though from SJ's perspective, she wouldn't know her. I wonder if she's mellowed any with age?

Ace - This one is wide open. All we know is that she traveled with Seven, and they parted ways sometime before his regeneration, so they could do anything with the character. She also seems pretty popular around these parts.
 
Unless you recast, Dodo's a no-chancer: Jackie Lane gave up acting thirty-odd years ago, and has no desire to take it up again.

I can dream. And no, recasting companions isn't something I would be remotely interested in.

I'm curious about Ace. I've only seen one of hers, the Curse of Fenric, and I have to say that I didn't really like her, or the Doctor very much in that one. Though, I did think it was cool that she packs around a caving ladder just for kicks.

If we can get a spin-off about a tin dog who gets regenerated (wtf?) and amnesia (again, wtf?), why can't we have a mystery series set in the same universe as Doctor Who?
 
K-9 regenerated? When did that happen?

*disclaimer* I am very curious about Dr.s 1-8, but have seen very little of them. I have seen the new series seasons 1-4.5ish
 
Yep. It's an Australian production, apparently. It's Leela's K9, the Mark 1, which he left behind on Gallifrey. Somehow, a machine can regenerate. And OMG, is the new version the very definition of ugly. Link to picture.

Since you said you're unfamiliar with the classic series ... There have been four K9s. The first traveled with the Fourth Doctor and his companion Leela. Leela chose to stay behind on Gallifrey when she met Random Extra #193872 and decided to get hitched. K9 stayed with her. The Doctor went inside his Tardis and brought out a box marked K9 2. That second K9 stayed behind in E-Space with Romana II. The version at the beginning of "School Reunion" was version 3, a gift from the Doctor to Sarah Jane (received in the spin-off episode "A Girl's Best Friend" and later seen in the Five Doctors movie). The new model seen at the end of that episode - and in Sarah Jane Adventures and Doctor Who since then - is version 4.
 
Ok. For a second I thought that K-9 4 was supposed to be a regeneration and I misunderstood the end of the School Reunion.
 
Curse of Fenric is actually part of a loose trilogy in a sense, of three stories dealing with Ace's past and present. "Ghost light" and "Survival" are part of what some fans refer to as "The Ace trilogy". Fenric is also sort of the culmination of a larger arc-starting with "Dragonfire"-dealing with why the Doctor chose Ace as a companion in the first place. The books develop her further somewhat, including making her fight in the Dalek wars.
 
I don't really see why The Sarah Jane Adventures would bother to bring back companions who have no real connection to Sarah Jane. It makes sense to bring in characters from her past, but if it's just another character who travelled with the Doctor but whom Sarah Jane does not know? Then it's really fairly pointless.

She could have met any of the UNIT characters. Liz Shaw, for example, would have been perfect to bring back, instead of Useless. But, who knows how much of Five Doctors she really remembers? She met lots of companions then.

you won't be watching 'Death of the Doctor' then since she never met and didn't know Jo and she's just another person who travelled with the Doctor...

I'd been under the impression that Jo and Sarah Jane had met and had a relationship back in TOS. However, I didn't say I wouldn't watch it, I said it makes no sense. I really don't see the point of bringing back a character with whom Sarah Jane has no relationship. It would make sense to bring Jo back on Doctor Who, but not The Sarah Jane Adventures.

As Omaha has already pointed out, it does make some sense because of their mutual connection to U.N.I.T. I would agree it would make no sense to have say Ian or Polly show up, but certainly not Jo. Either way, I don't see why it's such a big deal.
 
I've always wanted the Doctor to have a death bed reunion with Ian.

Other meetings:

* The Brig
* Susan

Anyone else is just a bonus.
 
Also on the point of whether Sarah has to have met other companions to make it work. I would say that isn't travelling with the Doctor in the TARDIS a big enough connection?

Another story idea for either Doctor Who or SJA would be for previous companions to somehow meet up through the internet either by the baddie of the week placing the advertisement or starting the web group in order to somehow trap the Doctor or them just meeting up monthly or yearly to reminisce about their time with the Doctor and then having the Doctor get involved for some reason or another.
