Six comic strips to be honored with their own postage stamps

I'm making a special trip to get the Calvin & Hobbes stamps. Not that I send all that much mail through US Postal Service anymore.

Aww, that's sweet. None of them are particularly special to me, but I'll take a look anyway. I still send mail through the post office.

I definitely would go for Calvin and Hobbes. I'm old - I use the USPS a lot still.

If that is not the British Dennis the Menace, and instead the crappy american one, it means nothing.

Have to say I was a HUGE Archie fan in my distant youth.. I'll be getting those as well as the Calvin and Hobbes (which, after being framed, will probably end up as a Christmas Present for my wife)...

Peanuts got their stamps back in 2001, I believe. If only they made Calvin and Hobbes stamps back in the days when stamps were useful.

I never liked Dennis The Menace or Garfield, but I can't deny their status. I picked up the occasional Archie comic when I was a kid, if it caught my fancy, but it's definitely a phenomenon-- I've met people from all over the world and whenever I mention that I collect comics, Archie is the first thing they ask about. I've enjoyed Beetle Bailey over the years, though it was never a favorite. Calvin & Hobbes is a classic in a category of its own. All in all, I would have selected different comics if the decision were given to me, but these are legitimate choices.

Ditto. I'm sort of known for sending birthday cards to everyone under the sun, so still use a lot of stamps. I LOVE Calvin and Hobbes and will definitely be picking up some of those. Really don't have any great connection to any of the others, though.

Saw the story, was hoping for a Bloom County stamp.

Again, ditto. I still miss Bloom County.

I remember a story on I think 20/20 where people were claiming Beetle Bailey was racist. One Asian guy said Corporal Yo was clearly racist because he was smarter and more capable than the white characters.

I am not a stamp collector but I would love to snag Calvin & Hobbes!

And like many of you, several of these are not my favorites but I see why they are there. But I do feel that the missed a very important one, The Far Side. A stamp with a Far Side cow? Now that would have been awesome.

Yes! I want some The Far Side scientists on a stamp, or The Far Side God. That would get framed.

^ Maybe that's why they didn't do a Far Side stamp. There was just to many awesome things to choose from. I guess they should just do an entire series of them then. :bolian:

Yes, yes, yes!

oooo, that too! The cow or the iconic Farside lady with the beehive and cat's eye glasses.

I miss the "good comics". When I was in college in the '80s my little school daily ran only Farside, Bloom County and Calvin and Hobbes and it was a little slice of heaven every day to turn to the comics page. I was also a philosophy major at the time and probably placed WAY too much significance on the choice of Calvin's and Hobbes' names.
