Sisko's parentage

Wow. That even gives me some ideas as to what may have happened in the AU seen in "Parallels" where the Bajorans were an aggressive, warmongering race that conquered Cardassia. I write fanfic for that AU, and boy this looks like it could explain some things!

"That boy is our last hope" ...only to have Yoda CORRECT a Jedi-ghost who was supposedly "one with the force" and informing him that "Nope. You're wrong. There is another"

Does Obi-Wan then smack his ghost forehead and say "Oh crap! You're totally right! I FORGOT he had that twin sister! I may only be a Force-ghost, but I bet the force is strong with her too!"
Ummm, in case you missed it during the film. When Yoda stated, "There is another (hope)." he wasn't referring to
Leia Organa, he was talking about Anakin Skywalker.

In order to bring Benjamin Sisko into existence, how many generations did the the prophets have to go back? To make sure Sisko was "just right" might have been the work of centuries. And the process did result in Sisco being more than just another Human being, in Emissary when Kai Opaka touched Sisco, she felt his Pah and knew that he was the the Emissary. The Sarah prophet changed or added something to Sisco's spirit.

:)

Well, I certainly missed that interpretation! Though perhaps my opinion was muddied by Yoda's last words to Luke in the next film, a nearly identical line which I felt clarified the statement from ESB, "There is another Skywalker..."

This statement was clarified by Obi-wan later who verifies Yoda's statement to Luke "The other he was referring to was your twin sister"

Vader could not bring himself back to the good side. Only his offspring, (or "a new Hope", if you will) either by virtue of the Force or by the simple fact that through their suffering, Vader would see how terrible he'd become by choosing the dark path.

As for Sisko (or Sisco, if you insist) ;), I still stand by my original statement that the circumstances of Sisko's birth were arranged (or ensured) by the Prophets, who, rather than assuming corporeal form (which perhaps they couldn't do), took over another human who likely possessed the qualities they felt would benefit Sisko. That's pretty concrete. However any feelings about his 'pagh' or 'soul' being 'part-prophet' is simply speculation, as any scans made on Sisko showed that he was 100% human.

DF--would you accept, though, that the Prophets may have programmed some genetic and neurological quirks into him, though, even if his soul itself is human, to make him more receptive to their visions and influence? Personally I think "Rapture" and "Far Beyond the Stars" give us sufficient grounds for that one.

NG: Oh sure, I wouldn't rule that out - it might have even been the whole point of manipulating his birth in the first place. That said, Sisko's visions in Far Beyond and Rapture could just simply due to the fact that he was chosen by the prophets as their liaison to Bajor in the first place - no genetic manipulation needed.

But let's say because of his parentage, that he was biologically 'vision-ready', then why the need to be shot with the big energy blast in Rapture? In my opinion, that is what opened his mind up to the visions. Although despite "Bashir's" efforts to shut it down biologically - the prophets managed to send other visions to him anyway, starting with Far Beyond a year later. Maybe his brain did have super-resistant synapses, triggered by the blast - who knows?!?

Also of note, Kai Winn received visions from the pagh-wraiths, but I don't believe her genetics were manipulated at birth, nor was she part-wraith. Perhaps none of it matters. When crazy non-corporeal beings want to communicate with you, they just do.
