Sir Patrick's health in Picard 3?

Dark Gilligan

Writer
Fleet Captain
I can't help but be concerned that the good admiral is seated in almost every scene. Once you notice it, it's everywhere; he's sitting all the time. Even when he's up and walking you rarely see him below the waist. Plus, his voice is anything but robust. Does anyone know if he's been ill?

SPS is only about 5 weeks younger than my dad, and my dad is in acceptable health and simply gets tired easily.

Aging is a bitch. I don't expect an 82 year old man to have the same pep and vigor that they did 30 years ago. For reference, Sir Pat was 55 when he filmed First Contact.

The one I was kind of taken aback on was Tim Russ..his voice has aged significantly and I'm wondering if maybe he was ill during the pandemic.

Same, my dad is in his 70's and prefers to sit or ly down. He can't stand for a long time because it tires him out.

Patrick Stewart is a life long hero and role model for myself and many others through his portrayal of Jean-Luc Picarrrr. I am just thankful that Patrick is willing and able to come back to the franchise and work at his age to give us this final season of Picard, may he be long blessed with continued good health. Hopefully Patrick can cameo in the new show, but I get the feeling that he will be done with acting after this.

Given his age and the fact the seasons were filmed back to back, that doesn't seem in any way remarkable.

Whatever the deal is with Tim Russ's voice is a very recent development. He guest starred on an episode of The Orville which aired in 2019 and his voice still sounded the same as it did during Voyager.

Not totally done with acting - I believe he’s long had the intention of playing King Lear when the time is right.

I thought that he had already played King Lear? Unless Patrick wants to play King Lear on the holodeck of the new Enterprise in the next spin-off? There is precedent for this with Robin Hood.

I was actually thinking that he looked and sounded better, in the face at least, this episode. But you are right he was sitting a lot, especially noticeable in that conference room scene with Jackie.

I remember thinking it was odd at the time, it definitely seemed more like a "stand up and talk to your son!" moment.

The man is advanced in age, and filming means long hours. You may simply be 14 minutes into watching whatever episode, but during that scene he's probably 7 hours into filming that day on their fourth week of production.
He's experiencing the same health conditions as any other man in his 80s: Aging taking its natural toll.
We're lucky to have him back in the role at all, most actors have largely retired by his age.
Let the man sit!

Stewarts voice has been gravelly for about 5 or 6 years now. Well before Picard. At 82 he will not be doing anymore action scenes. Look at Sylvester Stallone. Once he hit his early 70's he finally gave up weight lifting and moved over to rubber bands for his workouts. He still looks great for 76 but that can change on a dime with advanced age. Seems to be like 80 is where everything really starts to fall apart.
