Sir Patrick Stewart open to another movie?

When asked about the possibility of another Star Trek feature film, Sir Pat said:

"Yes! I think that would be a very interesting and exciting thing to achieve."

He didn't shut the idea down! Alex Kurtzman's response was:

"I think in a way season three of Picard is that, but we’ll see what happens" (I'm happy with this - this series feels more movie-like)

Whatever happens, I'm very surprised with this response! Maybe in time Secret Hideout will be responsible for movies for theater and streaming? Or collaborate with Bad Robot?

I'd personally love a massive multi-show crossover, heck maybe even multiversal? (mind you the new comic series seems to be covering that!)

Pine, Stewart, Shatner, Mount, Wesley etc imagine that?!

After recent events, forget about Shatner.

He's hard at work making sure bridges are burned between him and everyone else on Star Trek.

I think, what they were going for in seasons 1 and 2 of PIC would have fit better in the movie format. So I'd be very optimistic in regards to a movie centred around Picard, with a couple supporting characters - from those seasons, preferably.

But a movie featuring the whole cast of TNG? It would be very hard to avoid the same shortfalls each of the TNG movies up to this point had: having only three characters at best in the spotlight, and cutting all the others short.

Yeah, he's been on that trajectory for a while now, it's unfortunate. But it's not untypical for older people, some stop giving a fuck about anything. Mostly to do with not being at peace with the nearing end, I guess. Which is funny taking in account what he mentions in regards to his docu, his outlook in life etc.

Also, this quote from the article, regarding current Trek:

“I got to know [creator] Gene Roddenberry in three years fairly well,” said Shatner, “he’d be turning in his grave at some of this stuff.”

Haha, I for one am pretty sure that at this point Roddenberry is turning in his grave at all the people stating he'd be turning in his grave - especially the ones concerned with his """vision""".

I still think that the final couple of PIC S3 episodes is going to be a crossover event.

But in the event that I am wrong, I think a multishow & multiverse crossover movie could work. But it might have to be split into two films, ala Infinity War & Endgame, to give everyone enough screentime and to tell the story coherently.

A massive crossover movie like that has never been done before in Trek and could conceivably be released in time for the 60th anniversary if they were interested.

@Lord Garth

Other than a salty comment about Nu-Trek and being a bit rude about a mask I'm not seeing what bridges Shatner is burning?

It's sort of normal for him to be salty about Nu-Trek. He's been like that since TNG days.

First, and most important, Leonard Nimoy wanted nothing to do with him for the last five years of his life for a reason. He had no respect for Leonard Nimoy's wishes when he used Leonard Nimoy in a documentary without permission. And I deeply suspect that was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Second, though I think George Takei needs to learn how to let go of things, his feeling burned by William Shatner didn't come from nowhere.

Third, back in 1993, I remember that James Doohan refused to be interviewed for his book Star Trek Memories. James Doohan said, at the time, "He won't use what I have to say and, if he does, he'll twist it to his advantage." It made me wonder what was going on, but I tried to keep an open mind and not take sides, until....

Fourth, seeing William Shatner's Twitter. When he's just being himself, he's a fucking asshole. Sometimes you have to call a spade a spade. A very successful asshole, but an asshole nonetheless.

Fifth, and not least, if you want to still be part of Star Trek -- and he still does, despite what he says -- you don't go around insulting who you potentially might be working with. And definitely not publicly. He took issue with having a smaller image when they had a collage of various Star Trek characters and he was way in the back. If he didn't care, he wouldn't have said anything. He wonders how Patrick Stewart can do Picard. I don't think he'd want to do a Star Trek: Kirk, but I do think he wanted to be approached by Alex Kurtzman so he could say, "No." He doesn't want to go to the party, he just wants to be invited. He wants to drive the conversation and he wants people to idolize him to feed his ego. When he's not "properly" idolized, when people don't go up to him asking to be part of their projects, he gets upset. He turns bitter. He wants to control the conversation and he's not even being invited to be part of it. So instead of feeding his ego, his ego is hurt, and then he goes Scorched Earth. Secretly, I think he wants Alex Kurtzman to worship him like Kevin Smith does.

That's my take.

I love the character of Captain Kirk, but I now have to separate him from William Shatner in order to enjoy TOS and the Star Trek movies he was in. I think he'd make any project with his Kirk in it not worth the hassle.

The fact that every casual mention of Shatner always leads to a hijack argument about him is no accident. It's his doing, and that's one of the reasons, (another being how he shafted Nimoy for an appearance at his funeral for some BS reason after spouting on about how the two of them were like brothers for decades) I have lost all respect for him. He and a particular politician have a lot in common.

I think, based on clues from listening to Picard/Macfadden on the CC circuit, the end of PICD S3 marks a next step in that era's future and Stewart's presence was hinted as possible.

Enough of the myth. Adam Nimoy has repeatedly talked about his father and Shatner loving each other (emphasis on the word loving), and did not say that all ended before his father's passing.

Second, though I think George Takei needs to learn how to let go of things, his feeling burned by William Shatner didn't come from nowhere.

Takei is a bottomless well of self-inflicted misery where his "career" and relationships to co-workers are concerned. He was a day player who allowed the 1970s convention culture to make him believe he was more important to a property than he had been at the time, or would be in the future. His constant bitching about a man he barely worked with illustrates how he is one of the most hateful, petty creatures ever to step in front of a camera (and in that business, that's saying something), with only himself to blame for his personal and professional failings. Ironically, his greatest "success" is in trashing his own legacy with unsubstantiated rants against a former co-worker.

I'm sure he will weather it. He's one of the central reasons there is a Star Trek franchise at all (sure as Hell its not anyone working in that franchise now), so he's more than entitled to speak his mind on its qualities (or lack of it).

I don't spend much time in the TOS Forum and don't know what's been repeatedly refuted by Adam Nimoy. Or what the forum regulars post over there.

The Takei thing has been beaten to death.

Third and finally, I never said William Shatner couldn't speak out against New Trek or its actors (just that he shouldn't if he wanted to work with them), but he's never even seen it, so it's all rhetoric. And it doesn't change what I said about how Shatner wouldn't want to actually work on New Trek and the feeling on the other side is probably mutual.

Adam Nimoy is not Shatner's PR representative or agent, nor is anyone twisting his arm, so one can assume his first hand revelations about the relationship between his father and Shatner are coming from a genuine place. Some--with a near pathological hatred of Shatner--wish the opposite had been the case, but it was not.

The Takei thing has been beaten to death.

Well, you did bring that up, concluding with:

"his feeling burned by William Shatner didn't come from nowhere."

Takei has no ground to stand on, and there's no historical evidence to support his hateful, jealousy-soaked BS, starting in the convention years, all the way up to his embarrassing bitching about Shatner's Blue Origin trip.

I'm certain Shatner would not miss a thing never working with Kurtzman, or any of the performers currently employed to work on his series. They are all still chasing after the cultural legacy / modern myth he helped build--and its not working out.

@Richard S. Ta next time just ask me a question like that over PM. Thanks.

Back on Topic: I can't say how I feel about Patrick Stewart being up for doing more Star Trek movies until I've seen PIC Season 3. If it turns out well, then I'd look forward to it. If not, then, well... So we'll see.

Outside the core fan base (and for many inside it) William Shatner is Star Trek, for the right salary and a decent sized part in the movie Shatner would do it. This would bring in older general audiences in a way the none of the subsequent captain actors would.

Let's face it, in the general public who might go see a new science fiction movie, no one knows who Mount is.

his feeling burned by William Shatner didn't come from nowhere.
It comes from one being the star of the show with their name in the opening credits, and one being a extra who occasionally got lines. Shatner has said numerous times that he didn't even know Takei name for most of the run of the TOS.
