Singly most hated & despised ep of the whole 79

The underlying story is sound if you put your fingers in your ears and sing loudly to blot out certain words, so as to pretend they never say anti-matetr, and instead said 'magic plot device stuff'.
It's way off being the worst episode of the original series, but it is the first episode that goes out with a subliminal 'We're sorry, but we had to deliver something' caption.
You just don't like the "Lost In Space" black drape backgroud sets, be honest!

Seriously....can someone explain what redeeming quality "And the Children Shall Lead" has that keeps it off of the bottom? I mean I really don't understand how this is not the worst episode. I'd like for someone to point to one redeeming thing in the episode.
Nah - Its the cinematography, lighting, and music associated with the Helen Keller bitch I can't stand.You just don't like the "Lost In Space" black drape backgroud sets, be honost!
Star Trek has 79 gems of varying luster. The good is great and the bad is deliciously awful. 
The Empath was always kind of dry. The chick in it just nevver clicked and the music they played when she started rubbing the boys down was annoying.
Plato's Stepchildren bit the big one but as we all know there are scenes in it which are deliciously hilarious...so it gets a pass as a "must-see disaster".
Let that Be Your Last Battlefield really chewed it but the drawn-out self-destruct sequence...and the way Frank Gorshin ran through the corridors in that semi-limp, angular fashion save it from being the worst of the worst.
Conscience of the King sucks and although it had a few decent moments it still chewed. I liked the view port of the hangar deck...at least there was that...and it wasn't an obvious redress of engineering.
The Apple was fun.
Who Mourns for Adonais was not what it could or should have been, IMO.
The Way to Eden was kind of fun but hokey...in a good way.
For me....it has to be Spock's Brain. It's the worst...but the chicks weren't bad and it is kind of fun towards the last act. Still, it's not like I'd never watch a rerun of it. I would only it'll have a higher cringe factor.

Given the restraing factor of the budget, it remains one of my favourite eps.

I can't stand it when trained Star Fleet personnel forget their oaths, forget their loyalty to their captain and crew, give up all their ideals, all that stuff...for some alpha male. Even one who uses his godly powers to give her a pretty dress. So "Adonis" isn't one of my favorites. (Neither is "Space Seed," for that and other reasons. Neither one makes my bottom-of-the-barrel list, though!) It does have some good moments - I just don't see why they couldn't have found a way to do it without dragging in some weak-headed romantic female as a plot point. Bleah.

Ironically, that was probably the ballsiest part Leslie Parrish ever had during that period, with the possible exception of Daisy Mae in the movie version of "Li'l Abner".
I've only seen episodes like And the Children Shall Lead and Plato's Stepchildren once so it's unfair to label those. However, I have seen Alternative Factor twice, and I still don't understand it. That gets my vote.
I'm watching "The Alternative Factor" for the first time. All the criticism is well-earned. I can't believe a season one episode could be so bad. Unlike every other Star Trek series I've seen, this one has an unbelievably consistent season 1, that is in my opinion more consistent than and filled with more great episodes than the other seasons. Unfortunately, the special effects in this episode are frustratingly murky, as is the plot, and the guest star gives new meaning to over-the-top in the worst way possible. The episode is maddeningly incoherent and hokey, but there's no way it's as painful to watch as season 3's worst clunkers.
