Singly most hated & despised ep of the whole 79

^ While this isn't a favorite episode of mine, I don't think the music is bad at all - I mean, it's pretty folky...but that's only natural. Just because something sounds outdated to us now (and it does to me, too - it sounded out of date just a couple of years after it originally aired, IIRC) doesn't mean it's necessarily bad - and in the same way, just because something happens to be in fashion, that doesn't make it good.

Gotta admit. I've always been fond of CATSPAW and WOLF IN THE FOLD. So what if they're basically spooky campfire stories? Who says STAR TREK can't do an old-fashioned horror story once in a while? I mean, look at CATSPAW. It's STAR TREK--with witches and ghosts! What's not to like?

Then again, I've always prefered Lovecraft to Heinlein . . . .

To GSchnitzer, in post #171 on page 9:

I have no choice but to agree, wholeheartedly. That was a dumb decision. Though the script had other problems, such as Spock first knowing nothing about the Gorgan culture, and then, without research, knowing everything about them, leaving out important plot points in editing is Stupid.

This thread is getting painful to read - too much bashing of TOS masterpieces!!

For the record, I LOVE the weird 60's music of the kind that Adam and his group perform - I wish I could find more examples of music just like that!!

Turnabout Intruder for me. It just always grated on the nerves.

Wow! Turnabout Intruder is one of my favorite episodes. Spock's Brain bugs me, but I think I hated the episode where the landing party were slaves and wore collars the most. I can't even think of the episode's title, but it was LAME.

You're thinking of "Gamesters of Triskelion." I'm never in any real hurry to watch it, either, but I will every now and then. It's still got some pretty cool concepts to it. :)

The Alternative Factor. I was sooo lost! I had NO idea what the HELL was going on with weirdo Lazarus, the fading-in-and-out images and skirmish until Spock explianed it. Ugh, and I just wanted to cut off his stringy beard.

I however, enjoyed And The Children Shall Lead. I just like the 'evil children' thing. I enjoyed Miri too.

They did a hilarious parody of GAMESTERS on CSI this season--as a Trekkie fantasy sequence. It was pretty dead-on!

You're thinking of "Tomorrow is Yesterday" instead of Mr. Atoz and the Atavachron.
Ooops! You're right!:o
I think I jumped to that because "All of Our Yesterdays" WAS SUCH A GOOD EP!!! My mind could not process that anyone would hate that ep, so I read it wrong.:shifty::brickwall:

"SUCH A GOOD EP"? Aaaaaauuuugh! I hate it so, so, so much. I hate the hackneyed plot; I hate the fact that instead of using something approximating a real Indian tribe, they once again use Generic Indian Tribe #101 (I know this was only the '60s, but it's still not right); I hate the costumes (Kirk looks, I'm sorry, like a dork in that headband - and why does his hair never grow any longer than the regulation Fed haircut?); I hate the embarassing dialog; I hate how pissy and petulant McCoy acts in this one; I hate how after all this happens, Kirk forgets about his beloved wife (and child, even - she was pregnant, if I remember correctly) almost before the Enterprise leaves orbit; I hate...just about everything, really. Well, the girl who plays Kirk's wife is lovely, in spite of that ridiculous wig, as is the scenery, but I truly loathe this episode.

We had a thread on this a few months back, and opinion was definitely split, so while you can find other people who like this episode, Chris, you can find plenty of other haters, too. Neither of us is alone. Isn't that nice? ;)

Actually, Kate, you're misremembering the episode. Paradise Syndrome ended on planet, with Miramanee dying in Kirk's arms as sad music played in the background. And Shat played Kirk as being very affected by it. Guess it's been a while since you've seen it.

As for most hated episode, for me it's And The Children Shall Lead. Although I'll admit Plato's Stepchildren was pretty poor too.

Yes, I know, Duncan - if you read the entire thread, you'll see that somebody else caught my error and I made the correction in my first reference. I left my second reference in even after the error had been pointed out because humility is good for the soul. But thanks - you never know.

Kate, we would never take your Geek Card. For your penance you must watch Spock's Brain 3x within the next 10 days and say four Our fathers and three Hail Mary's that Khan doesn't reappear as main villain in XII. Congress is in session. The disintegrator chambers are overbooked.

Go and sin no more.

Rackon, I missed your absolution until just now. Thanks! I am at peace now...

Sorry Kate, I did scan the entire thread first, but I guess I missed that.

Don't look at contemporary television shows, then, because most of what was passed off as 'hip' and 'now' music on TV shows of the late 60s and early 70s was pretty dire. The music in "The Way to Eden" might not be to everyone's taste, but it has the virtue of having been relatively authentic for the time.

As I'm winding up Season 3 (watching "All Our Yesterdays" now, only "Turnabout Intruder" left), I'm tossing around the following five eps:

"The Alternative Factor", "Catspaw", "And the Children Shall Lead", "Plato's Stepchildren", and "The Way to Eden".

This is a tough one. These are so bad in their own ways. I need to trim this down. I'll get rid of "Catspaw" and "The Children Shall Lead" since they don't cause me as much pain as the others to watch. And I'll get rid of "Plato's Stepchildren" because of the sheer ludicrousness, which gives it just enough camp value.

And so it comes down to "The Alternative Factor", which is just a god-awful mess that I had trouble staying awake to, and "The Way to Eden", which had me holding my head and wanting to drink heavily - this morning! So much pain with that episode...

My winner, therefore, logically arrived at, is "The Way to Eden". And it wins, ultimately, for one reason...I HATE HIPPIES!!
