Since we'll never have back our beloved DS9

Hum....I don't read the books...but I have heard over the years that the relaunch was really good.
Are recent books not good? Or what?
Well, it's subjective of course. But while acclaim for the first run of story arcs was, as far as I can tell, near universal, more recent arcs have been greatly divisive. Some readers feel the quality has dropped or the cohesive vision that made the early relaunch so engrossing has been lost, and others argue that one story arc in particular totally misses the point of the episodes it's based on. So a reasonably large portion of the original fanbase has been alienated.
The continuity has gotten a little confusing for the DS9 novels; I think even somebody who followed the series would be lost. Warpath is the last great novel so far.

There were a lot of delays which caused a loss of momentum... then the last books created a plot that, because of the decision to move the timeline ahead to Destiny (a popular crossover series) they skip that and just allude to it.
It's not that the recent books have been "bad" it's just that it's been disjointed... and the long waits have made things a bit unsatisfying. But yeah, there are tons of books that cover several years that are well worth reading.
Of course if you really want more DS9, you could write your own version of it after the Dominion war, it worked for me. I've never read the DS9 relaunch books, but I have seen the series three times over. So I decided to take matters into my own hands, have some fun...

Yeah, we've been exulting about it in Gen SF&F. I was seriously wondering whether we'd ever see another space opera again. It's not certain or anything, but still...nice to see SyFy isn't totally allergic to space opera.
I hope they don't mess up the casting. There are so many great genre actors who are "at liberty," there's no excuse. Hire a bunch of vets like Ben Browder, Edward James Olmos, etc. and a couple young unknowns for eye candy, that shouldn't break the budget.
Although I strongly disliked SGU, after seeing Brian J. Smith in Red Dead Redemption, I gotta admit, he's got an interesting persona, and wouldn't be a bad choice for the Young Space Jock role that is bound to be part of the mix. I wouldn't mind seeing David Blue again, but not as the nerd cliche - maybe a skeevy villain? Robert Carlyle is out, he's got a great role on Once Upon a Time.
I wonder how many of the DS9 actors are still working? Marc Alaimo and Andrew Robinson are apparently retired. Colm Meany's in Hell on Wheels. I spotted Nana Visitor on Grimm (playing a Queen Bee, how great is that?
) but it won't be a recurring role. Rene Auberjonois and Armin Shimmerman have been on Warehouse 13 lately. Casey Biggs and Jeffrey Combs have been in some stuff - I'd love to see both back in a space opera.
There are also a few other shows in development that involve aliens, if not space. (Of course, there's no telling where things can lead - I wouldn't be surprised if Falling Skies turned space opera-y in S2).
Thunderstruck (AMC) - drama about powerful and enigmatic entities from space that begin appearing all over the world. After one shows up in the town of Great Falls, Montana, the local citizens must grapple with the dramatic effects and growing mystery of repeated visitations.
Stranger Planet (FOX) – drama about a hard-boiled L.A. cop who stumbles upon the existence of aliens living among us and must team up with two aliens in order to solve intergalactic mysteries on Earth.
Alien Nation reboot (SyFy) – helmed by Tim Minear, the drama centers on the partnership between a veteran cop and his alien detective partner, set against the larger tale of alien "newcomers" who move to Earth and attempt to assimilate into society.
Untitled Alien Bounty Hunter project (CW) – drama about a young woman who, on the first day of her new job, discovers that the cosmetics company for which she is working is actually a cover business for a secret governmental project that monitors alien activity on Earth.
Untitled Melrose Space Comedy (ABC) - centers on a normal family who moves into a condominium complex to find out that everyone living there but them are aliens.

I write stories in my head.
For me the problem has been the opposite- I don't mind that they started a few months after DS9 ended- but I was interested in what was happening... but now I'm left hanging, and the universe of Trek has become a painfully unpleasant and dark place with no relief in site... I wanna go to the Dominion! XD

Wolfe was on track to make a show of DS9-level greatness with Andromeda, until the studio went over his head and totally ruined it midway through the second season. That remains a great tragedy for SciFi.
Hopefully this new show will be very similar to Andromeda's first 1.5 seasons, and the studio will leave Wolfe alone as he makes it.

This was announced almost three years ago and there's been no news about it since.

I must admit to desperately wanting some space opera though - I'm heartily sick of all these (cheap to produce) Earth based semi-scifi shows...
No big loss, I wasn't enthused about that one. Here's where I'm tracking all the sf/f shows that are more actively in development. Still not much that breaks the surly bonds of Earth
but I'm hopeful for AMC's Thunderstruck, which at least features aliens of some sort.This article does not even sound interesting to me
