As he is one of the writers of the next film, I would have loved to see him evaluate or talk more about what he did not like about into darkness instead of just saying he had issues with it.

I have to wonder if he like most people who said they did not like STID was because of the wrath of khan remake or if there was something more about the film that he had issues with.

IIRC, he was Tweeting that fan speculation/rumour was incorrect that Cumberbatch was playing Khan. That's gotta be a little embarrassing.

I disagree with the poll that said that Into Darkness was the worst Trek film ever. I think it was definitely better than Nemesis and Final Frontier. I suspect that poll was more of a protest vote because fans did not like how Khan was portrayed. Basically, Khan who is one of the most iconic and beloved villains in star trek, was shoehorned into a movie about something completely different. I think Into Darkness would have been much better received by fans if it had either dropped the Khan bits completely or been a true origin story and showed us Khan in the Eugenics War.

Uhuh. Plus, which one is the worst Trek in his opinion? Because whichever one it is, a lot of hard work and love went into that movie too. The idea that certain audience members can't piss on a film just because people worked hard on it is ridiculous.

Pegg should avoid stepping into the same sort of trap Orci did as far as hurling insults at the fanbase. It's not good business and I think Orci's temper was a factor (although perhaps not the defining one) that caused Paramount to unseat Orci in the first place.

Of course it's not the worst Trek movie. There is a distinction to be made between 'worst' and 'personal least favourite'

It was a fun roller-coaster ride with some very silly cartoonish blunders. It isn't the sixties.. or the eighties.. I think it's possible to do fun roller-coaster sci fi without dumbing down too much as long as you respect the diversity of the fans. The trick is finding the right balance. STIV is very silly in many places but it struck just about the right balance. The biggest issue I have with the new franchise is keeping technobabble to a minimum (good times) but then piling on magical technology that makes no real sense because it will look cool (bad times).

Which I disagree with, I personally find Star Trek IV pretty bad.

Which is why creators shouldn't worry about finding a "balance". They should tell the best story they possibly can and let the chips fall where they may.

Dales, you've done this thread already, back around the time that article first appeared.

You were speculating then, based on no real evidence, even after having been given a week's time to provide it:

I dont know what is going on with the man, he keeps giving all this interviews on how his script will be different, how it will be traditional and stick to core values or how he learned from orci's script.

I know artists are suppose too respect each other but I cant shake the feeling that Pegg did not like the script of into darkness.

Pegg may not have said something negative but I cant shake this feeling off that he is sort of unhappy with the way into darkness went both in terms of his personal reception of the film and the fsome fans reception of the film as well and for this, He wants his own script to be much better than what orci wrote for star trek into darkness and star trek 3 that Paramount rejected which lead to orci exiting the film as a writer as well as director.

...and you're speculating here, based on no evidence. Don't recycle a topic when you've got nothing new to bring to it, and particularly not when you had nothing but a "feeling... that he is sort of unhappy" to go on in the first place.
