Silly "Dukes of Hazzard" question

Three states including Georgia, right? That's the only way to arrive at three. I just saw the episode that guest starred Cale Yarborough and it has Roscoe tricking the Dukes into crossing the State line which is a violation of parole. It seems to imply that Hazzard borders at least one state otherwise Roscoe wouldn't have jurisdiction, right?

Theoretically, Roscoe wouldn't have jurisdiction if the Dukes left Hazzard County but remained in their home state. (Since sheriffs are for counties.)

And, I believe, southern states call them "parishes" and not counties.

Well Lousiana does. I'm in TN remember(its been under my av for 6yrs now) and they are counties here as well as in AL, GA, KY, NC, SC, FL and VA. Can't speak comfortably for Arkansas or Mississippi(haven't been to either state in some time) but I'd wager its counties there as well.

Curious, why did you assume that? Its not a sterotype I've heard associated with the whole South and living here I know most.

Only Louisana has parishes instead of counties, its a holdover from French law.

I don't know Georgia law but in California any cop who passes the POST exam has police powers anywhere in the state. That includes school district police, who were invovled in the Rodney King beating. County safety police who are security guards at county buildings and parks. Some park Rangers. The deputies manning the county jails as well as the traffic officers of the Highway Patrol and all the city police departments. When I worked the unincorporated part of LA County under the Sheriffs patrol I often saw LAPD, Inglewood PD, Southgate PD, Gardena and the CHP conducting arrest raids.
