Sigh. Drivers suck.

So I'm driving along the road, minding my own business, when the car in the lane next to mine suddenly decides he want to be in MY lane and quickly darts over. Well in order to avoid this person from continuing their journey from my front seat I had to make a quick, evasive, maneuver as when they moved over my front-left quarter-panel was in line with their right-rear quarter panel.

So when they begin their maneuver I quickly move over to avoid the colision, running into the curb. At 45 miles an hour.

The result: A tow truck, a bent riim, a bent tie-rod and a rental car.

The other guy? Kept on driving and I didn't get their plates.

Fan-fucking-tastic.

Ironically, you'd have been better off letting them hit you. It would be their fault for merging into your lane while you're still there.

Sorry man. :(

A while back I was signaling to take a freeway exit, and some asshat passes me on the shoulder right at the exit. I'm surprised I even managed to see him in time. I kind of wish I didn't and that I had just rammed him into oblivion.

Some guy tried to do the same thing to me 2 weeks ago. I had to brake hard to let him in...so I let him know how I felt about it with my horn. He then gets *back* in his original lane and slows down so that he's next to me, and begins to yell at me, telling me I need to learn how to give right of way, and called me a pussy.

:wtf:

Apparently I was supposed to "be manly" by stopping, getting out and challenging him to fisticuffs.

There's a street really close to me where the right lane merges with the left, but everyone in the right lane keeps going forward and the left lane people have to stop for them.

I also see a lot of people with knee-jerk reactions to people who are turning up ahead. Turning left, turning right, they freak out and immediately switch lanes without looking to pass, even if that vehicle up ahead is turning without having to wait. Hell, I saw someone switch lanes to avoid a car that was getting into the TURN LANE!!!! Some old lady almost clipped me one time because there were a bunch of cars in front of her that were idle because the front car had to wait for pedestrians to cross before turning left, so the old lady just jerked into my lane and I had to hit the brakes to avoid her.

I'm glad we don't have flying cars yet. People are bad enough with left and right, do you really want to add down to that?

Is there anything illegal about putting a camera in your car and filming stupid drivers to put on the internet (with their license plates)? Driving is done outside in public, so it's not an invasion of privacy.

Since you're out in public, I don't see what would be the least bit illegal about it.

While this does indeed suck, at least you're okay.

You're okay, right?

Oh, I'm fine. A little shoken up and tense, as well as pissed, but uninjured.

Nothing illegal about it. First of all, filming things isn't illegal, recording sound is another matter, and as long as it's in a public space it's perfectly OK.

Many years ago I followed a blog of a guy who did something similar, although it was just a simple still photograph of bad drivers he encoutered on his drive home.

Sorry to hear about your accident Trekker. Robert Maxwell is probably right in saying that you would have been better off letting him hit you. However, I was in a accident similar to yours several years ago. I let the guy hit me rather than swerving into another lane of traffic. Problem was, the joker didn't have insurance. Just my luck. My insurance company had to pay for repairing my car

Did someone post on here a couple years ago about how another car ran into him at a gas station, and in the middle of their conversation, the guy who hit him suddenly pondered out loud that perhaps his car was the one who got run into? But then when the guy who actually got hit mentioned security cameras, the other guy shut up?

Drivers definitely do suck. We had some asshat at my store today who drove his monster truck (seriously, this thing was the size of the USS Defiant) over our bike rack. Then the idiot claimed that he couldn't see the rack and that it had never been there before. Well, first of all, if he couldn't see the bike rack, he's got no damn business being on the road in the first place, and second, yes it fucking HAS been there before, in all the 11 years I've been working at this dump! :brickwall:

I had the same thing happen to me a couple years ago, only I was on a motorcycle. Motorcycles don't tend to handle very well when you hit the curb sideways at about 80 mph.

And of course the bitch who pushed me out of my lane drove off like nothing happened. In fact not one of the other drivers who saw it happen bothered to stop and see if I was ok. :scream:

A high school friend of mine was parked at the pump once, and when he went to leave, he accidentally hit the wrong pedal and accelerated right through the gas station itself! Now that's a bad driver.

You could have really used the Fisticoy Yield Stick.
I've been working on it for years.

Glad you're okay, Trekker.

Sounds to me like a problem with the blind spot. You should pay special attention whenever you're in someone's blind spot.

I don't think I was in his blind spot. I can see someone in that quadrant of my car if I bother to look in my mirror/over my shoulder. I may have been a little further behind him than I led on, it was hard to tell as it all happened so quick. But it seemed to me that the guy didn't look over his shoulder when he merged, he just darted right over as if I wasn't there.

It may also be worth mentioning he was on his cellphone.

I've got good insurance, so would have probably let him hit me if he was coming at me that fast. Instinct makes you brake/swerve, but if you've got the choice of hitting something else, or the guy causing the problem, bombs away, baby! ESPECIALLY if you see he's on his cell phone. That's about the first thing they ask now when filling out all the fault paperwork, and the first thing the lawyer will ask for (cell records for that month) if it gets that far. If he's on the phone at the time of the accident, you own his ass...

Yeah my instinct took over beyond my need to get some jackass' insurance to buy me a new car. ;)

What sucks is, I just had that very tie-rod and rim repalced this past winter from an ice-slide into a curb. :scream:
