Shows You No Longer Watch

The Simpsons - I own Seasons I to XI and have no interest in purchasing any more after that. Yesterday, I tried to watch the latest episode on Hulu, got about 5 minutes in, sighed, and closed my browser, making it the 9th time in a row I have done that. The show has just become dull and repetitive. There's no life in the characters anymore, no real heart like there was in the first half of it's run. I lament the loss of it's once bold originality and worthwhile characters.

Family Guy
- The old episodes are terrific. The new episodes are tedious. It's not worth watching anymore.

Law & Order SVU - Once I realized just how full of shit this show actually was, I stopped watching.

American Idol - After the 5th season, I just stopped caring.

America's Got Talent
- When Kevin Skinner won, I knew the show was in the crapper.

Ghost Hunters
- While I never took the show seriously, it was always fun to watch. Now it's just guys bored out of their minds trying to pretend what they're seeing is actually happening, while it has become painfully obvious that the effects are being edited in after shooting. Normally this isn't an issue, but they're making so many blatant mistakes (and they do push themselves off as legitimate) that they insult my intelligence by pretending to take it seriously.

Heroes

Watched up until the end of the AWFUL second season. Never watched an ep of S3, even though I acquired most of them. I just recently deleted the whole batch from my hard drive because I KNOW I will NEVER watch it. Absolute shit.

Never understood why so many people hated series 2 seem like coming off such a high from season 1 meant it was never going to please people. I personally started becoming tired with show with season 3.

Lost - stopped watching it during season three. The constant offing of characters that I actually liked and the continued focus on that godawful Sawyer/Kate/Jack-triangle of doom did it.

24 - After 5 seasons of nothing but rehashed plots, I had enough. Never bothered to finish watching season five.

The Stargate franchise as a whole - I said goodbye to SG-1 after the end of season 7, which was the end of the original team (they all ended up and died in ancient Egypt).
Atlantis only lasted one season on my tube, since it brought absolutely nothing new to the table.
I'm not even gonna bother with Universe.

I agree with so many on:
Simpsons-I stopped watching that a generation ago. Seriously its been on so long it spans two now generations now. I stopped a good 9-10years ago. The last one off episode I saw was the Transformer-esque TreeHouse of horror some 3yrs ago.

Survivor-Quit on this midway second season. This show set the template for using the same formula with little/no variation to make me care. Which leads me to...

HEROES- Quit on this about episode 5 of Season 3. Blah, Blah and more same ole same ole dreck.

I've had more shows taken from me than I've given up on.
Moonlight, New Amsterdam, Life(it is official on that one right?), Karen Sisco and Firefly come to mind instantly.

Deadliest Catch - I believe I may have finally reached saturation on crab boat fishing television.

Heroes - Stopped watching this year. Probably should have stopped watching back in season 2. The writing on this show is just appallingly bad. It's a shame because it has such a great cast.

Fringe - Stopped about midway through season one- I just couldn't find the time to fit it into my schedule. If it continues to get positive buzz I may catch up on it someday.

I'll be honest, I don't watch first-run TV anymore. The last show that was appointment viewing for me was Boston Legal. Now I just wait for the DVDs. I don't have a Nielsen box in my house, so it's not like I'm negatively impacting anything.

I've dropped a few shows recently. I'm watching less and less TV these days.

Another vote for Heroes. I enjoyed season one, suffered through seasons two and three, and haven't bothered to watch any of the current season. It's all on my DVR but I just don't care enough to watch.

I gave up caring about The Simpsons many years ago. if I'm home and there's nothing going on, I may watch a random new episode. But otherwise I don't care. Same is true for South Park. The early seasons were great, but the series has become very hit-or-miss.

Ugly Betty was entertaining enough but I just lost interest.

Dollhouse, Family Guy (watch it once in a while maybe), American Dad, the Cleaveland Show struggles to hold my interest, SG:U may have potential, but it better get to it quick.
I find shows like Monk that are moved around etc. by stupid networks hard to watch, but the show IMO is still really good, so if I like the show, I'll put for the effort.

Too many shows I like get canceled so that leaves plenty of time...

Whaat!!! Castle? Castle is amazing.

I gave up on Dollhouse. Maybe if they pulled some home run episode I'll give it a go. Family Guy is so not funny and that's about it for me.

I surprised that I still watch Defying Gravity..

Of shows currently in production, I bailed on:

The Simpsons - it stopped being funny, the characters changed in unpleasant ways (Homer more ludicrously idiotic, Marge more shrewish, Bart more of a prat than a brat, Lisa more insufferably preachy and all-knowing), and even the supporting characters couldn't hold my attention any more. I'm not sure when I lost interest but it was a while ago.

CSI - not sure when I bailed on this, either, but it became formulaic and dull and watching it became a chore rather than something I was interested in doing. So I stopped watching. The spinoffs were never of any interest to me.

Fringe - it was jerked around in the scheduling here and then vanished altogether, only to reappear (starting from scratch) on another channel. I've been recording the eps and may give it another go, but it didn't really grab me first time around anyway.

Not sure if I've bailed on Heroes yet or not.
I've pretty much force myself to watch it the last 2 seasons telling myself that the next episode was going to be my last.

So far I've DVR-ed all of this season but haven't watched a single one yet.
I just haven't had any interest to.

Gave up on the first two CSIs ages ago, never bothered with CSI NY. Can't stand the leads.

I haven't completely given up on any of the Law and Orders, but I don't go out of my way to watch them anymore. Ditto with the Simpsons.

Smallville: Its such a shame what happened to this series. I think it started to go downhill when they killed Clark's dad off, but then they killed John Glover's character, then got rid of Lex, added some not-so good villians (Doomsday & Tess), and made Clark soooo dumb. Oh and while I did like Lois at first, she got a bit annoying. Plus it just makes no sense that she's even in the series. lol. Miss this show though. Wish it was still good...

Ghost Whisperer: Another show thats gone downhill. They've changed it so much and really made it a lot soaper. It started out as a supernatural show that had a bit of creepiness to it; now its just all soap and not much substance.

The Simpsons: Sure, 20 years is quite an achievement, but the show just isn't as good as it use to be. I think it really needs an infusion of better writers.

Law & Order: Watched the first episode back this season and really didn't care for it. The show has lasted a long time, but it just not been the same since Lenny left. And it got worse once they made Jack the D.A. imo.

BTW, to the last poster, Sarah is guest staring in CSI right now. And they say they want to keep her around for as many episodes as they can. I think the show has improved quite a bit with her return. This season has been very, very, very good imo.
