If there was a TV channel that had a nightly Trek marathon and they were to follow that with either four hours of Xena and Hercules or two hours of NYPD Blue and then two hours of Xena and Hercules?

Which would you be more likely to stay with? Which would hold your attention and keep you on that channel, and if you're not into most police procedurals, would you stick around for the reduced two hours of fantasy two hours later?

Are those the only choices?

If there was a channel that only played ST:TOS and Mad Men, then I would probably never leave the house.

Meh to both options, honestly.

I like to keep my idealism/cynicism levels balanced, so maybe a block of "House."

Those are the options because that's exactly what a cable channel in the US did. They have a nightly marathon of every "classic" Trek show every evening (one episode of each) and they used to follow it up with two hours of Xena and then two hours of Hercules.

A couple of weeks ago they decided that inserting two hours of NYPD Blue after the Trek marathon and before one hour of Xena and one hour of Hercules would be a good thing. I disagree.

I don't mind Xena (and sometimes Hercules). They're exceptionally cheesy but sometimes fun. The later seasons of Xena are a bit annoying, though.

I’d have to say Death in Paradise. It’s light entertainment with likeable characters and a pleasing formula. It’s also full of Dr Who actors and pleasant scenery.

Saw enough of Xena and Hercules in the nineties.

@Scribble , I hope you don't mind, but this seems to be the type of thing that the TV & Media forum was made for, so I'm going to go ahead and move it there.

I already get Star Trek for several hours a day during the week (4 episodes of TOS/TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT from Monday-Friday) and 2 hours during the evening. Right now they're showing TNG at night, every night. The rest of the weekday viewing is the old Twilight Zone and a movie.

So I wouldn't mind a mix of Star Trek and Xena/Hercules, as I haven't seen all of them. I'm definitely not into NYPD Blue, though.

Add in Eureka. I feel that show came closest to recapturing TNG-like sci-fi stories. It presented some interesting thought-provoking ideas.

Xena lined up to jump the shark when Karl Urban showed up playing Julius Caesar. It went full "Oh no, Fonzie!" when they decided she needed to die to atone for what she had done.

And that was years after having Xena help put an end to the Trojan War, sending Helen off with Paris and sending Menelaus home alone one season, and then putting Odysseus back on course for Ithaca post Circe and Calypso the next.
