Shows that are sci-fi/fantasy shows and nobody knows it.

I got a few:
1 "My so Called Life." In the their Christmas episode it involved a ghost of a teenage girl who had died while being homeless and she was their to help Rickie who was going through a similiar problem.
2 "Family Guy." Stewie has a time travel device and not only that but you got a talking dog and God,Jesus are real for certain.
3"Law and Order." John Munch was in a "X-Files" episode and he went on to be in the "Law and Order" universe. Actually it started even earlier when "Law and Order" did a crossover" episode twice with "Homicide: Life on the Streets."
Also if you want to pick from movies that is okay as well.

Castle crossed over into full on sci-fi several times, they had a laser gun as a murder weapon, a possible time traveler, and an invisibility suit.
I started my own thread a while back theorizing that Vikings could be fantasy, since we have a seer who does appear to actually be real, and I believe at least one other character had prophetic dream. I believe there were also some hints or theorizing that one of the characters might have actually been one of the gods.

The play/movie WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? was included in one of my English lit college courses for science-fiction. Certainly Martha has her fantasies about a son who never existed, but in essence it's a drama with all the raw emotion you'd expect. But for the sci-fi designation I'll credit my instructor for original thinking. I doubt you can call the play or film a fantasy by any stretch.

(Side-note digression: many thrillers with high bloodthirst quotients such as THE PURGE series, THE BELKO EXPERIMENT, YOU'RE NEXT and the older BATTLE ROYALE are often considered ''horror'' by their creators or fans, but it's not for the usual supernatural elements or insane opponents on the order of Hannibal Lecter or Norman Bates. I think calling them horror is arguably also a stretch. Bloody suspense thrillers, definitely.)

Well "The Purge" is set in the future and I think it was a allegory about how we treat the poor so I think it would count as science fiction even more than as horror or a suspense thriller.

Even though it is a science-fiction show, I think a lot of viewers didn't realize it was one until things got really weird. Despite, you know, the smoke monster.

I recall in the movie "The Rock" that the Roswell crash was real and the government had either some aliens or a spaceship.
"The Truman Show" I think also counts as one of those allegory movies where they explored the concept of reality tv even before reality tv had become as popular as it would soon become.
"The Siege" predicted a whole new level to terrorism hitting American soil but "White House Down" and the other one did as well.
"24" had a nuke go off in one season on American soil.

I never realized that Person of Interest had a science fiction element until reading some things towards the end. I always just figured it was a typical CBS procedural.

I think the focus is important, I'm sure a lot of shows have an episode or two that's a bit of a departure or whatever but I don't know that makes it a sci fi show per se. Like I don't usually think of a sci fi show that had a funny episode as a comedy either.

I'm branching out beyond SciFi/Fantasy into the realm/genre of the Supernatural and mentioning BONES, which introduced the idea of unexplained paranormal/supernatural phenomena existing long before explicitly crossing over into that genre wholesale by featuring a team-up with Sleepy Hollow.

What about "Revenge of the Nerds" or the "Rocky" movies? Both had robots in them that are way to advanced from the 1980's or even today.

Actually, X-Files is fictional in the L&O/Homicide universe. So there's two different Munches.

Thats my rationalization for seeing the X Files on TV during the same episode of Fringe they directly reference their predecessor, the "X Designation."
