"Show Used" Dilithium Crystals - scam?

I'm curious if anyone can offer an opinion on these. I've seen them on sale on eBay. I'm a little suspicious since they don't say which episode they were used in...I can think of a few that were dilithium-crystal-rich from a prop perspective (e.g., Elaan of Troyius), though this description doesn't say they were TOS.

Even if they were used in shows, I'm thinking...how many can there be?

Any opinions? I personally don't know anything more than what I read in this auction.

Thats funny, i was looking at those just the other day. The seller claims to be Jimmy Doohan's son Chris. If you are seriously interested you should email him and only bid/buy if you feel confident it is indeed him. He does have 100% positive f/b but don't base any decisions on that.....do more research if you are interested in purchasing from them.

In the end, only you can decide if it is worth it or not. I would do a little search to see what you can find about the Sci-Fi Cafe, and if the Doohan family, or just Chris Doohan, is involved. If you believe it is a legit website, for $20, it may well be worth it to have your souvenir. I would say, though, that you will likely only getting a very tiny vial.

Why does this bring to mind the "Napoleon Dynamite" time-travel device, purchased on eBay and powered by...crystals..?

Hi, This is Chris. These dilithium crystals were originally won at IAW auctions (I won 17 auctions). The COA from IAW doesn't specify what show that they were used on.

I thought that this would be a great way to let fans of my dad have a little part of the show, without spending $100's or $1000.00.

Any questions, please feel free to contact me from the Ebay site.

Thanks, Chris Doohan

i'll have to load up the dvd and look, but believe it looks kind-of like the "depleted" crystal shown on the BOP in ST-IV

hmm, it is a possible match in shape-type-color etc, but it is hard to tell if it is one of the bunch. i believe i remember something on the bonus disc that showed the crystals prop box, if there is i'll post another comparison

nothing in the extras, sorry.

my only concern about this, is that the feedback is certainly all positive, but the feedback is almost ALL concerning multiple sales of THIS item. it wasnt a constantly seen prop, so how many crystals can there be?

if that could be explained then i might bid on one.

Just to clarify

Hi, This is Chris. These dilithium crystals were originally won at IAW auctions (I won 17 auctions in total). The first one that I won is on display in Linlithgow, Scotland, at the "Future Birth place of Scotty" exhibit.

The COA from IAW doesn't specify what show or episode that they were used on. If it did, I would gladly mention it on the ebay site.

I would be happy to answer any questions that you may have. Feel free to contact me from the Ebay site.

Thanks, Chris Doohan

@ CBDoohan, You say you won 17 auctions in total... Then how come, based off only the first 2 pages of feedback, you have sold over 45 of these dilithium crystals?

Re: "Show Used" Dilithium Crystals - not a scam

Tom,

These are pieces taken from the original Dilithium Crystals. Some of the original DC's (like the huge one pictured above) were 20 pounds or more.

So much for a $20.00 souvenir. Current bid is $102.50.

This looks like one of Chris' eBay auctions. Fascinating.:vulcan:

So you are taking these props and smashing them to get more pieces out of it? :vulcan:

You are correct, Sir. It's not unusual, as it's been done with uniforms and even bridge carpet. I spent many thousands of dollars to win these auctions, and I assure you that there is not a big profit margin. I take pride in being able to share this with fellow Star Trek fans.

Just saying but... Raindog, the OP, just joined on the 28th, when he started this thread, and he has only made one post, this thread. Almost as if he joined only to ask his question. Now that by itself isn't too skeptical, I mean if I wanted to find out about that, where would I go but to where a bunch of trekkies are... But, CBDoohan also had just joined when he started posting in this thread on December 2nd... He's only made 4 posts, the ones in THIS thread... Now, what are the chances that the person selling the items in question by the OP would be on THIS forum, and find THIS thread about his product when he wasn't a even member of this website in the first place? What are the chances of that? It seems to me like this is all just some publicity stunt to attract more customers...

I mean: Someone asks about the item, asks if they look authentic, drawing attention to them and causing people to have to really LOOK at the item to make their decision. If those people think it does, maybe they might buy one, get more customers. But most of the people weren't too sure about it, seemed pretty skeptical... So Chris Doohan himself pops up to assure everyone they are indeed authentic, to keep too many people who might have bought one from changing their minds... Perhaps the seller would have popped up anyways to bolster everyones opinion of the item's authenticity regardless of their initial thoughts on it.

Now, if the seller and Mr CBDoohan are indeed Chris Doohan is another story completely, it might be, it might not be, who knows. (Though I do find it amusing that the user name is CBDoohan, almost as if to show off that it's Chris) But either way, I think we've all just been had by someone trying to sell something... Just saying... that's how it looks to me...

Yes, on the "big one" (I suppose that is a relative term), but it looks like you can get a small vial as a buy it now for $20.00. I don't know how big the vial is, but it is here:

Perhaps a PM to Anthony could solve this. I thought Chris had posted here previously. If it really is Chris Doohan then Anthony would know; if it is NOT him then we have a spam issue.
