Show me your body art!

I haven't not had an earring in those holes longer than 10 minutes in like 10 years, so hopefully they'll never close on me now.
I pierced my own ear with a thumb tack when I was 14. Had an earring in there for maybe 6 months before I decided I didn't like it.

10 years later and the hole still hasn't closed!

Really? I had both of my ears pierced with something like a 14g when I was 18. In fact, those are the only piercings I've ever gotten and I just did it on a whim. I still have one of them, but the other one fell out within a year of my getting it and the hole closed up a few years later. At one point after the earring fell out, I went around wearing a short nail in it. Yeah, I was hardcore.

I love these threads, we get to see more creative tattoos every time. :)

The above is the only tattoo I currently have. I'm looking to get a half-sleeve done, once I settle on a design. I also want to get a tattoo based on this tattooed on my rib cage -- when I work up the courage to deal with the pain. :)

Wow that is really hot!

How badly did your guys' tattoo fade after time? The picture I posted was almost immediately after I got it, so it was nice and sharp.

But it got really faded and a little blotchy once the skin healed. I need to get it touched up at some point, but I'm probably going to wait until I decide to add something to it or not.

I forgot to mention that I really liked yours. Obviously, I've seen it before, but it's a very cool variation on the starfleet logo, and therefore unique without being pedantically nerdy.

5 years, hasn't faded at all. It depends on the person and how well your skin can hold the ink. Use a product called "bag "balm" can you usually find it at a hardware store oddly enough, it's in a green tin. Or a good moisturizer and use sunblock so avoid a lot of sun exposure on the tat itself.

It's supposed to be a combo of the Starfleet logo and the Vulcan IDIC symbol. I don't know why, just thought it looked cool. And yeah, I was going for something that looked cool but didn't scream "Star Trek!"

Except that the tattoo artist saw it and immediately said, "Hey, neat Star Trek symbol."

I have very dry skin on account of my psoriasis, and it's even worse in the middle of winter (when I got my tattoo), so I think that had a lot to do with it.

Oh, I see that now. Cool. Reminds me of my days of doodling insignia variations during class.

I have psoriasis too, I take care of it with good moisturizing soap and hit the tanning salon every so often.

Try the bag balm, it's not greasy and doesn't mess up your clothes. It's kinda like chapstick Wiki Link

Cool. I might have to try that out.

And tanning...yeah. I tanned last year because it was free with my gym membership, and it helped my skin a lot. Sadly, my new gym doesn't offer tanning.

During the winter, I go once a week, comes out to like $4 per visit with my plan at the place.

I like that one, Shaw. Do I recognize the symbol or do I just like the look of it?
It is based on the insignia for the Spacing Guild mental and physical training school from the original Dune film. In Dune there are three major schools: the Spacing Guild (pure mathematics), the Mentats (computation and analysis), and the Bene Gesserit (politics and genetics). So beside the fact that I like the design, it was also fitting for it's connection to pure mathematics (which is what I went to school for).

But yeah, that is most likely where you would recognize it from.

I had played around with a number of variations on the three circles connected by a bar insignia for an arm band design (some of which incorporated celtic knot elements), but in the end this simple version seemed best to me. I use the design in a lot of places on my web site, specially the math section.

Aha! Yes, that's probably where I recognized it, although some sort of mathematical or cartographic allusions were running through my head.

Touch up after five years for sure, after ten they'll get really faded(depending on your exposure to the sun!). The little blochys are called "holidays', and are very common. My tats need touch up, stat!

I will probably be getting my tattoo in the next week or so.

Any advice from the tattooed freaks of this board?

Should I put a salve on it? Leave it to heal without? If I should use salve what kind? Is neosporin best?

You definitely need to put something on it!

I used Neosporin, but I'm not sure how much it helped. The tattoo artist recommended something else to me, but I never bought it.

this is on the underside of my right forearm

I'll be getting the rebel alliance emblem on the same part of the left arm next month.
