Rant time..............
For a scifi mileu that is all about diversity and the myriad wonders of the universe it seems that many of its fans on this forum are totally close minded. It seems that " X is not/no longer canon" seems to be seen by many as the ultimate way to shut down a topic or disregard another posters opinion. Given how many times the background/setting /technology/history of ST has changed over the last 50 odd years, I for one cannot understand this slavish obsession. "Canon is only what's shown on screen" they cry ( oh, until something else is shown on screen which supercedes that, of course!!). For those if us who were ST fans back in the 70's & early 80's and only had the reruns of TOS and TAS to see on screen, the myriad ( licenced by TPTB) books were our only way of getting our ST fix on a regular basis and they shaped our personal ST worldview.
No, they may not be canon, but they were, back then, our ST reality ( while making money for TPTB who later disowned them). And would it hurt anyone if these orphaned views of ST were discussed in this forum without the ogre of canon rearing its very ugly mono thematic head?

This is not a great way to start a thread.

And since this really about the fans rather than the show, I don't think this is an appropriate thread here.

You can make your point(s) regarding specific issues in the threads in which those issues are being discussed.
