Shoutout to the vets - the O'Briens

For any of the regulars in the ST universe, it was an investment of many years, but among the often unsung heroes of longevity, we have the O'Briens. Chief O'Brien was there at the very beginning in the 1st episode of TNG, and went straight on til the end of DS9. Much respect to Keiko as well, giving so much throughout a similar time span. Much love to Colm Meaney and Rosalind Chao!

If we're giving shoutouts to the veteran actors, how about Majel Barrett-Roddenberry?

O'Brien was just a minor character in TNG and showed his full potential in DS9. Bad Keiko moments were the results of bad writing. I love it how Miles was possessed by aliens in TNG. Keiko got a comeback and had a possession episode in DS9. Both were not the strongest O'Brien episodes.
My favorite O'Brien episodes:
TNG - Data's Day, Disaster, Rascals
DS9 - Time's orphan, Apocalypse Rising

"Data's Day" was probably my favorite for them, too. They seemed like a very down-to-earth couple (and as individuals), very easy to relate to, even in their differences. And they both took pride in their heritage without it eclipsing their love.

I hope that 400 years from now "heritage" as we define it now, will be a thing of the past.

As long as it’s not used as a reason to exclude I see no problem with being proud of where your ancestors came from.

O’Brien was a minor character in TNG but he was THE minor character. The only one to appear frequently over a long term and make an impression every time,

My favorite for him in TNG is The Wounded.

When I was on Stipptus II I saw a sign that said
"No Farengis":wah:

I always felt the same was true of Worf. Yes, he was a major character on TNG, but despite being chief of security and a very important member of the crew, he was still this kind of, subordinate. The character fit into the DS9 ensemble like a glove. It was like after 7 seasons on TNG, he'd finally landed where he belonged.

Agreed. And maybe because of that, his character growth was very organic, and realistic.
