Shout Factory Doc Special Edition Blu-ray Aug 9

Just a quick heads up, found this tonight, immediately ordered it from work. I guess Shout Factory is who acquired the documentary. It comes with a bonus blu-ray disc full of extras. I know we're not supposed to advertise stuff on TrekBBS, I certainly have no affiliation with them, but I thought this would be the exception.

I didn't catch the kickstarter or whatever it was called for this, so I jumped right on it.
Says there's only 1,500 copies of this Special Edition being made.

:)

As someone who backed the kickstarter I'm annoyed/concerned by this. We've waited a couple years now for this project to finally come out and now it seems like we're going to be shorted on our product as a result.

As someone who got the streaming option, I agree with this. I went back to read the fine print again, but in the two years between the donation and when it was finally released it felt like things changed a lot. I signed up for the digital copy thinking I would actually get a digital copy. Apparently, I was on a time limit and I had to watch a shitty quality version on the ipad. It was an enjoyable documentary but it does feel like with the addition of Shout, people who donated ended up getting the short shrift.

I am ok with this. I was an indigogo backer at the Blu Ray level. DS9 Doc said on Twitter that we will get ours before anyone else. Plus it will have all of the special features that the documentary team put together. This special edition disc by Shout Factory was produced by Shout.

As DS9 fans we have been shafted by Paramount/CBS for many years. The original DVD special features from the box set are short and crappy.

The DS9 Doc team finally gave us a chance to see some HD footage. To give us some special features with meat on the bone. I am beyond excited! I don't mind double dipping in this instance!

I wonder if Shout was able to license the original trailers for their bonuses. Those should’ve been on the DVD’s. (Paramount did allow Simon & Schuster to put them on the DS9 Companion CD-ROM, but they are in like 160x120, 90’s era internet streaming quality.

And to add insult to injury, the Shout special edition isn't available to international customers.

After seeing it in the theaters this week, it's a bit soon to ask me to plunk down another $36, especially if I don't known what the special materials will be. Arbitrarily capping it at 1500 seems out of spirit with the crowdfunding campaign (yes, I only chipped in $5, but then I really wasn't getting anything in return).
