Shouldn't Eli be losing weight?

After watching last night's episode, I have to wonder if all they've been eating for the past many months is protein powder and some alien plants and vegetables, shouldn't Eli be dropping pounds?

They're making an effort to show the passage of time with hair growth, Rush's facial hair, etc, but Eli looks bigger now than when the show started.

Obviously it's a personal choice by David Blue, but you'd think the producers would have required him to lose weight throughout the series, or at the very least shoot him in ways that don't accentuate the weight so much.

Oh, and I'm not cracking on Blue because of his weight, I myself am a good 50 lbs overweight.

I was sticking up for Mr. Blue over on Gateworld before they deleted the thread on this topic. I will just point out he is not the only actor not losing weight. Nobody looks like they are the Bataan Death March, except Sergeant Riley. Nobody has lost any muscle mass and Lieutenant Scott's six pack is showing up.

Did anyone notice the size of the marine corporal who hosted General O'Neill when he stoned onto Destiny?

Therefore, Destiny is limbo and they're all dead.

I swear to god if you just ruined the Lost series finale, I will hunt you down and spank you silly. :scream:

He's lying.

It was an alien spaceship all along.

Or maybe it was a nightmare Vincent had after eating some bad kibble. I still can't decide which one was supposed to be the real part. Gah! That finale was confusing.

What are you talking about? It turned out the show all took place in an autistic kid's snow globe.

Oh that's bullshit!

We all know that in the end the island and the alternate reality both turned out to all be the dog's dream!

The Dharma initiative makes supply runs to the other side of the universe.

Turns out, Dominoes does too.

"Across the Known Universe - In 30 Minutes or Less!"

(I hear they have their own Icarus Planet...)

It is true though - none of the others actors are losing weight either...

I just assume they are finding just barely enough to eat on worlds they stop at to keep them from not being emaciated...

Actually Eli can't lose weight due to the bizarre clash between LA and Vancouver. It's part of the endless battle between the Hollywood unions (especially the Screen Actors Guild), the governor of California, the Candian Parliament, the Prime Minister of Canada, and the British Columbia Film Board. Some of the maneuvers have been brought about by Tom Hanks' loss of 35 pounds in his role opposite a soccer ball in Castaway.

Sadly, the victim of all these high-pressure political battles is David Blue, who now under international agreement must have a team of UNSCOM inspectors verify that he spend at least 3.7% of his gross salary at Tim Horton's.

For folk who supposedly have been stuck on a dirty old ship for quite some time it does seem odd that they are all pristine, tanned and well fed.

That said as far as plotholes go there have been worse, like being overrun via the single most defensible object known to man.

You ever notice how there were spider webs all over that massive tunnel system yet only two spiders? I'm just saying, them's good eatin'.

Yeah, I noticed that Eli asnt been losing any weight lately too. In fact he seemed to be putting on the weight. And the fact that his red shirt still looks new. Everyone knows that those kind of T-Shirts fade out and look like crap pretty quickly...

Just wanted to say that he could be theoretically losing weight and we just don't notice. Yeah, I noticed he looked heavier in the last ep too but so much of that is down to angles. He wears loose fitting clothes and is usually seen standing or sitting over a console, not leaning back, running, or carrying that stupid girl like he was this past ep.

When people lose weight the results usually aren't visible for quite some time.

Serious answer?

I'm guessing they want everyone on cast to keep their bodyshapes so it won't cause issues with out of order filming of episodes, pick-ups, reshoots, and all that.

Scruffy hair and beards are much easier to adjust than body size. For instance, Darkness and Light are a 2 part episode when in reality they were filmed weeks to months apart.

But couldn't they just give David Blue liposuction and then stick him in Jamie Bamber's fat suit from Battlestar Galactica?

If this show actually started getting good and went the distance, it would thrill me if Eli pulled a Daniel Jackson and ended up becoming the buffest guy on the ship.

Or he could end up looking like Carrot Top. Man, that guy looks weird now. Carrot Top Smash!

I just saw this on TV, hilarious, don't know if it's old news or not.

We should work that into continuity. Eli was unemployed in the pilot, but he must have had a job at some point. So there, he was at random fast food joint.

I'm declaring it canon.
