Should they have the official TOS theme in the movie?

And by that I mean, not the version of the theme as you heard before each and every episode of TOS. I mean more like the classy version that was heard in various parts of TMP and in TVH as the Enterprise-A was leaving the spacedock at the end of the movie.

It stood out too much in TMP, but I think we need to ending music to be in the same style as Goldsmith's, as well as the opening fanfare. If we could get the theme from TMP, TVH, and TNG in there, that would be good, but I think a score like First Contact, Insurrection and Nemesis', where you get the ending and opening fanfares, but it segway's (spl) into its own theme.

I hope they stay away from the TMP theme. TNG butchered it. They need to use the courage fanfare somewhere in the new theme.

Yep that's the ONLY part I liked about that ENT TATV episode. The episode was pretty bad but damn, that ending (the part where it showed the different Enterprises at the end) was done so well and with so much class, it sent chills down my spine!

I am siding with caution on this one and voting Maybe, depends... I think they should go with whatever is best for this film.

If using something stock is best then do that, if using something made from parts of other Trek is best, do that, if using something completely new is best, do that.

Actually, I would love it if Giacchino finds a way to get parts of Courage's theme somewhere in the score.

Goldsmith did the TNG theme - he "butchered" it, then...?

Goldsmith did Voyager's theme, I thought Denis McCarthy was responsible for the TNG remix of Goldsmiths original TMP and TFF versions

Courage fanfare... yes. A subtle reference to the TOS fight music... yes. The actual TOS theme music... no. At least not within the confines of the plot. Maybe, maybe running under the closing credits... an appropriately jazzed-up version with no vocal warbling and definitely without Roddenberry's lyrics.
