Should there be new uniforms?

The Trek crews have often changed uniforms with a few exceptions. Both TOS and TNG went through three different uniform variations throughout the series and the movies (Although TOS had four if you count the Cage/Where no Man has gone before outfits), and DS9 eventually used the First Contact uniforms as well.


The Nutrek uniforms of course were based on TOS, although not identical. There's an exception with the Cadet, Kelvin uniforms along with Admiral Pike's uniform which is based on TMP. I'm not suggesting that they take up the more military outfits from the movie era, but perhaps something to more distinquish this timeline from the others? Or if not that, how about some more variations such as a new version of the green wraparound outfit?

The only way I could see new uniforms coming about is if Abrams decides that Star Trek XII will deviate even further visually from TOS (making Star Trek XI simply the point where the two timelines/universes/realities had the most in common). Otherwise, I think the only new uniforms we'll see coming out of Star Trek XII are special environment/landing party clothes, possibly new formal uniforms (based on the one Pike wore) should there be a scene that requires them.

I agree. Very neat, yet very retro. Instantly recognizable but distinctly modern.

I would like to see more variation, like a kind of overall for technicians (like the one they wore in TOS), and the aforementioned green wraparound. Throw in some pants for the ladies too, as an option.

I wonder if we'll see new gear for away missions. TOS used jackets in the first three films (The yellow one from the end of TMP and also later) and also in the Cage, and of course there were varying designs of enviormental/space suits over the years.

My serious suggestions:

Keep em the same, but add some technician's overalls for extras and a green wraparound for Kirk. Give Bones his short sleeves. Some cool jackets for away missions.

Put some rank tabs on the shoulders of the male and female short-sleeved uniforms so that you can actually, y'know, tell what rank someone is.

I agree. This is the first time were are seeing classic Trek uniforms on the big screen. I say keep them.

Keep what was presented but add something that clearly shows what rank someone is. As many times as I've seen the movie, I can't honestly say I remember anybody's rank showing up at the wrists like in TOS. Maybe because people were moving up and down in rank so much I loved the vibrant, somewhat retroey colors instead of the muted tones in the first set of movies.

But they should add a new one: the Starfleet Marine uniform. Which would be of the same styling as the TOS unis - but in black.

I say offer a long sleeve alternative for the girls, since not every girl won't have sculpted arms, and some of the girls who don't have that might be somewhat insecure about flashing not so toned arms....though I have no clue on what the health and fitness of the average 23rd century person is like.

They usually cache the flabby armed old aunties to StarFleet Command, where they make Tasty Cakes for the Admirals. I won't tell you what they do with the Saurian Brandy bottles. This is a family BBS. It would give the squeamish something to squeam about.

NuTrek is going to be sexy Trek, just like TOS was, only more emo. As it should be.
