Should there be a Rollerball Remake?

I'm not talking about the crappy one that was made a few years ago with LL Cool J. I'm talking about the older one from the 70s?

I love that movie, but it is dated. I think a remake in the same vein as that movie - Player becomes bigger than the game, corporate bosses tries to shut him down, player becomes even bigger after a game with no rules or substitutions (JOHNATHAN! JOHNATHAN! JOHNATHAN!) would be well received, if done right. Heck, perhaps James Caan can play a retired player they bring in to talk whoever they get to play the part into quitting?

What do you think?

The general premise could be reused. You don't have to make it be about rollerball. Just use a lesser-known sport or make up another one.

I see what you are saying, but the game of Rollerball is essential to the story. It was invented to take the place of war when corporations took over running the planet. It basically is a brutal game to satisfy the blood lust of the masses, not a game where heroes rise, yet one does and now the corporations want him put down.

I just dont see that happening with football or baseball or some other made ups sport. Rolling around a rink, scooping up a ball while catching a ride from a motorcycle and fighting off your opponent with spiked gloves. Now that is something!

I want a Rollerbabies remake or sequel. Get Jamie Gertz back on skates.

Or a Prayer of the Rollerboys remake. The face of the future is fascist bladin' pretty boys!

Weren't Running Man and Death Race essentially the same thing?
But if you have James Caan in a remake (without LL Cool J), I'm in.

I would rather see a ''THE RUNNING MAN'' remake, then a rollerball remake of a remake! Besides who rollerballs anymore?

The real question is "Should there be Rollerball?"

Wrestling's very popular. Rollerball would be like wrestling on skates and it would be entirely appropriate for it to air on the Sci Fi Channel right between the Anbo-jytsu tournaments and Mutai matches.

What about Parises Squares?

Thought about that but I don't think there's any description of that game, just that it's very dangerous and player injuries are common. Another option would be klin zha kinta, "The Game with Live Pieces" variant of klin zha from John M. Ford's The Final Reflection. Of course, as with a real world Rollerball league, the actual killing would have to be taken out.

Any of these ideas are preferable to another, miserable remake of Rollerball.
