Should the Oscars be Gender-Neutral?

Hrm... Some of you are having trouble with the concept of a chick flick. Having women in the movie doesn't mean it's a chick flick. Ask yourself a few questions:

Are the chicks really hot?
Are they in skimpy outfits for no apparent reason?
Do they eschew meaningful conversation?

If yes, it's probably not a chick flick.

If no, do they talk mostly about men, decorating, menopause, breast cancer, or family relationships?

If yes, it's probably a chick flick.

Do they look either frumpy or overly elaborate (with hoop skirts and bonnets)?

If yes, it's probably a chick flick.

Do they have most of the dialog, prattling on incessantly?

If yes, it's probably a chick flick.

If yes, it's probably a chick flick.
Are they a small, close-knit group who've been friends since childhood?

Do at least some of them have eccentric or oddball personalities?

And mainly, are they Southern?

If yes, it's DEFINITELY a chick flick!

Isn't this a Jeff Foxworthy routine?

Pretty much, yes.

You know how to recognize and avoid chick flicks, unless pretending to pay attention through one will get you rewarded later. All men do.

Yes, there's no reason to have separate-but-equal awards for men and women. Chauvinism is one of the last prejudices to be embraced to this degree. Although there are still entirely separate awards for other segregated demographics, such as ethnic groups and Gays.

Personally, I don't care much about awards at all, but it would be a nice sign of progress to see them desegregated. It's only the 21st Century, after all.
