Should the Holo Doc been installed on the Defiant?

Not a good idea IMO.

It would be a repeat of the Andy Dick episode of Voyager. Since DS9 is a real drama with conflict unlike certain other shows which try to be drama yet almost never have conflict, the DS9 showrunners woulda made Bashir and EMH clash because conflict is necessary for good drama. But when you put EMH in a clash like that, you and up with unwatchable Andy Dickism, as Voyager proves. I'm happy that DS9 avoided Andy Dickism.

Photon, do you mean an EMH of any kind, or do you mean specifically the EMH Mark 1 (or Voyager's Joe to be more specific)? And by that do you mean in-universe?

I ask since people seem to be interpereting this as an idea to change the show, which may not be what you're on about.

No.

In 'The Search, Part One', Bashir makes the comment that he's uploaded the files that he can to what's "laughingly" called the medical database for the Defiant.

And in multiple episodes of VOY, its shown or talked about how complex the EMH program is, computer-wise, and how much space it can take up.

So, puttin' an EMH program (any mark) wouldn't work on the prototype Defiant.

Now, that said, I wouldn't be against the idea of another Defiant-class usin' an EMH, if they found a way around the computer use issue, but I still wouldn't want to see Picardo, Dick or whoever else they would cast as a hologram on DS9's Defiant.

Since DS9 is a real drama with conflict unlike certain other shows which try to be drama yet almost never have conflict,

Not really, most of DS9's conflict was from external sources. The internal stuff either wasn't very much, nor did it happen that often. And when it did, it was forced and kind of silly.

Right, for a purely in-universe answer, I'd say if they could, they should, since with the limited crew numbers that the Defiant was capable of carrying, a 'fold up' doctor would be incredibly useful, more so than on the larger starships, where larger medical crews are available. The main issue would be, would you have space to install the holoemitters needed?

In-universe there should have been a EMH installed in the Defiant given the limited crew space, though it would be wise to always have a real life doctor in case of power failure and when you need to go off ship. The decks would also do with the Prometheus treatment to allow the EMH to go anywhere. Take "Starship Down" for example, if all decks had holoemitters an EMH could appear on the bridge or anywhere to help crew.

Show wise no real point in having an EMH. They spent about 30 second in the Defiants sickbay in the 5 seasons the ship appeared on the show. An EMH also wouldn't add anything story wise.

Putting Robert Picardo on a good show, where he wouldn't waste his talents? Preposterous.
Not a fan of the Stargate franchise?
Never even seen it, other than the movie with Spader and Russel, if that counts. So Picardo's on one of them? Cool.

He appears a couple of times in Stargate: SG1 and then in Atlantis he gets a more major role as the commander of the expedition in the final season of the show...he probably turned up a few times before that in Atlantis as well, all as the same character, Richard Woolsey.

No thanks. I've always hated the concept of self-aware holopeople that can be created with the click of a button. The less of them on DS9 the better.

Wasn't Bashir going to have his likeness used for EMHs. It'd save casting guest stars.

In universe, it makes sense. Why risk a doctor as valuable as Bashir when you can have an entirely expendable holographic doctor onboard? But as far as the show goes, it would have felt like an extra layer that wasn't needed.

This is a great idea!!! Honestly, Picardo is an amazing actor (one of the best things about Voyager) and using him as a guest star EMH occasionally on the Defiant would have been cool.
